2006 RSX Type-S Bad MPG

In my 06 Type-S I’m hitting the gas light at around 220 miles on a full tank while driving economically. I’m posting the list of mods I have on the car that I think would affect MPG and I just wanted your guy’s input on why it might be so crappy. My assumption is that it’s my AEM Short Ram Intake but I’m not sure. Swapped out the spark plugs as well recently.

AEM Short Ram Intake
Injen Exhaust System
CE28 17” Wheels
235/45R17 Tires
Stock ECU

I'd get the codes read. None of what you wrote would cause poor MPG. I imagine your CEL is always on due to exhaust system so you may not notice the real code. Do that first. How does it idle? My first for real bad MPG is the O2 sensor as it will send way to much fuel. You will have an 02 code for not having a cat, but ignore that one as it doesn't meter fuel.

Check engine light isn’t on and I had the codes read. Gave me back 0 codes so I imagine it would be something else? Car idles normally I would say. Obviously it has an exhaust system so it vibrates more than a normal car. Thank you for your input.
Does your scan tool show live data? Can you drive normally and pay attention to the short term and long term fuel trim? what is the average values? It should be close to -5 to + 5. Post the values at idle and while driving on a flat road while going a normal consistant speed. Also, look at the engine coolant temperature and make sure it's at 180+ degrees F while the engine is warmed up.
How clogged is the intake and as above, is your temp guage moving once warm. The car thinking it's too cool will run a bit rich. Tires inflated properly?
Granted I have a Base model 5-Speed with reflash, but I get around 220-250 miles if I do mostly city. ~320mi on all highway.
Mileage sounds about right, I just dropped an 85K motor in mine and I am getting about 22mpg. I do need to look at the fuel trim as I do expect about 24-26

Yeah, that doesn’t sound right to me. I don’t drive mine much anymore, but when it was my daily I drove 75 miles a day in heavy traffic, I have a lead foot, and still routinely got 27-28 mpg like clockwork. On road trips 30+ cruising at 80. I have I/H/E, RBC, with Ktuner cookie cutter tune, but it was about the same stock.

How many miles do you have? Also have you cleaned your IACV and Throttle Body lately?
I feel bad when I go below 29.
How old is your clutch? If it's on the old side, it could cause bad mileage too.
If it's not something with the engine maybe something with the drivetrain or brakes.
My 06 Type S gives me about 220-240 a tank. All city driving. It doesnt sound that far off unless youre on the highway a lot
Sorry, been MIA for a couple of days but car is at around 85K miles now and turns out my clutch master cylinder was bad so I had that replaced. Also had the mechanics check my internals and sensors and they said the car is in tip-top shape.

Wider wheels and tires will cause your MPG to drop slightly, but not enough to go to 200-220 a tank. When I got wider wheels and tires I went from 345~ to 300~ per tank.
Either you, or have a mechanic do it, remove the throttle body and clean the IACV. I did that to mine and started getting better mileage. Fuel system cleaners help, but that stuff is gunked on there. I had to use carb cleaner and a toothbrush to get that stuff off of there.
Might not completely fix your issue, but I can guarantee it will help.
Finally got to do some highway driving, two tanks ago -27mpg! Last tank 24.5 almost 25mpg @ 85-90mph average speed.

Current tank is on track for 26-27mpg also.

85-90 mph @ 25mpg sounds about right to me considering your rpms would have been pretty high the entire time. I just averaged took a trip where i stayed at 75 mph and got 31mpg.

Do you have a different FD, or a lower vtec point?
