If I remember correctly the 24Hour Lemons is a variation of GRM's $2009 Challenge. Where competitors cars can only cost $500 or less.

To quote the site

Each LeMons race is for cars purchased, fixed up, and track-prepped for a total of 500 dollars or less.

And given what they did to last years "cheater" (a team brought a 750i BMW to a $500 race...) I would think he'd not want his RX8 to be any where near the track.
