Hello to all. I am 61 years old and have been a car guy all of my life. I have been a BMW and Porsche guy but I have admired the RSX Type S for years.

I have a friend who has a 2006 6 speed with 25,000 miles on it. It is totally stock and all original. No accidents or paint work of any kind. He's the original owner of the car and I have been drooling over it for years. Finally his situation has changed and he told me that he would sell it!

My question is about price. He wants $15,500 firm for the car. I suspect that it is worth the money but I need some input. Please let me know what you think of the price given the history, mileage and condition. I will be driving it about 3k miles per year and might be tempted to autocross it.

Thanks in advance for your time and input!

I always base it off of KBB value. Here, a type s in that condition could go for 10-12k from a private seller. Where is your friend getting his figure from? It may be different in your area, but that dollar amount seems steep. Almost like he added on a couple thousand due to rarity, or he has a personal attachment to it. It'll more than likely need bushings/belt/fluid etc even with mileage that low. That stuff can go bad even if the vehicle isn't driven much.

$15k is a lot for a 11 year old vehicle, but if it's something you have lusted over for years, I would do it. However, keep in mind that due to the age of the vehicle, oem replacement parts may not be available some time in the future.

Agree ^^ A well thought out answer. Cars sitting for a long time...you never know what they required.

And if you are paying upper price I assume it is TYPE S. What a find though...25K miles? Nice!

$15k is a LOT of money for a stock RSX-S. Probably worth $10k private party at most. Yes even with such low miles. A dealership might be able to ask $15k and get it.

That being said, it is an extremely fun car. I've had mine since august 2005 and still love it, even though I only put about three miles on it in the last year, mostly due to a tax increase on tabs to pay for a Seattle monorail I will never use. After moving outside the tax zone, I'll re tab and insure the car again so I can drive it.

Honestly if you can afford it, try to talk him down a little bit bring all cash and slap it in front of him 13-14k. promise that the search for one of these cars is so hard to find any unmolested decent ones. I spent two years looking for one in 2013, bought a crashed one, and it was a pos. I just picked up a 2005 Type S one owner 106k. So it took me 5 years to find a good one. Yes the price is high , make sure to explain to him it is getting really old for a car.
