AC Won't change from blowing straight toward me.

746 Views 11 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  ronin_asano
I figure it's something electric but this afternoon I noticed that I can't shift the air to my feet or to the windshield. Is there a fuse for this? What could it be? I tried turning the car on an off and switching all the ac settings repeatedly to see if maybe it was a bad contact.

Any ideas or suggestions would be grand!

Thanks in advance,
Jeremy.

did the question make sense? The ac won't engage the vent changes to anything other than directly at me. Does anyone have any idea?
This was a common problem with the climate control in the 4th generation preludes (the reason a lot of people went with the JDM climate control). What's your suspension setup like?

I ask b/c if you have a really rough ride, I can see some of the welds cracking on the board that controls this. I had this happen on my 93 prelude. I got rid of it before I fixed it though so I can't help you on cost to fix or anything. I would think your best bet would be to find someone parting out a wrecked RSX and get their climate control and replace yours.

Sorry man, at least you still have A/C but it'll be a bitch in the winter if you cant get it on the windows. Try hitting the dash... lol... always worked for me in my prelude.

EDIT: Won't be a bitch in the winter cause your in FL lol
Thank you sir...very much. Yeah...I have a megan racing full suspension lowered pretty well. It can be a pretty rough ride. I'm at 46K so I might try and get it warrantied before it's too late! Or I'll bang on the dash! lol.

oh yeah, I meant to ask if you were still under warranty. Go warranty that bitch. I also didn't mention that my prelude had 230K on it when it happened to me... it shouldnt be happening at only 46K. Take it to the dealer. if they won't do anything, like I said, see if you can get one out of a wrecked one. If you know how to solder and junk, maybe you can take yours apart and find the cracked solder point and fix it yourself.

Whatever you do, good luck.
i know how in theory...but never have done it. where is the climate control located?

again, thanks for the help man.

I'm really not sure in the RSX. I'd guess the circuit board is right behind the dials but again, duno. There is a write-up with pictures on how to do this for a 4th gen prelude somewhere on the internets... lol not much help but I thought I'd throw it out there.

Personally, I'd rather just replace it. Even if you DID take it all apart, re-touch the spots that may be cracked, and got it working, theres no telling if it'll crack again and you'll have to re-solder everything all over.

Before anything, call your dealership. Call them now and tell them what's up. Don't mention your suspension mods obviously but I'm sure if they're a decent dealership they'll replace it for you.
Yeah man...thanks a lot. I'm actually pretty cool with the guy that runs the service department by me. He was cool and gave me a 07 TL Type S as a loaner last time even though I didn't buy from his dealership! I'm sure he won't hassle me. I may try and get a new steering wheel before it's too late too because mine is showing A LOT of wear already!

I'd go for both of those things if i were you... and DAMN... an 07 tl-s loaner?! how was that beast? They always make me not want my RSX back by giving me TSX w/navi and TL's and junk... lol
no kidding...naw...missed my rs sex...very much...i love driving a little car that takes off...LOVED the reverse camera and the power of the TL though...hated the gas mileage! lol.

put your hvac in troubleshooting mode. if the dampers don't work properly it will flash a trouble code at you. count the code, then you know what to tell the dealer.
