Im getting my spoiler and fog lights installed in my new type s and they gave me a base as a loaner and all I can say is they feel like 2 completely different cars. I'm sure its a great car in its own right but with cloth interior, lame ass stereo, automatic it feels really cheap compared to the type s. I was completely shocked. At least I don't feel like I wasted the extra cash for the type s.!

I actually perfered the cloth seats to the leather. The base CD player had more kick than the bose system in the type-S, but the bose is much much cleaner sounding. Other than that, the interior for the two cars are exactly the same (minus the shifter). everyone has their prefernces.

i drove the base at work, i liked the cloths better also, the radio was lame.. and the car was an auto - so that sucked too

it had 22k miles and was selling for 18,999... :dontknow:

i guess i got ripped selling my type-s with less miles for the same price!

Base RSX I bought in Canadian market is a BARGAIN @ $24K (US$ 17K) compared to anything similar and of quality on the market. But if you want perfomance.... forget it with a 6800 redline! No ABS, no sunroof, no cruise are good things for track time....and cloth seat are well bolstered, still has AC etc. So just add all the Type R parts from JDM land, throw away your warranty, and voilaa .... you have a homebuilt lightweight RSX Type R that should outperform any Type S.!

You'd have to do major enigne work on the base or a swap, to make it a "homebuilt RSX Type R"........$$$$$$$

I took the $8K saved on buying the Type S, and put it towrds the $16K I spent on the Type R total swap. Definitely not trivial or for the mechanically timid ... but what the hell... they don't sell it here!

Well I spent about Cdn$40K total (US$30K) and will have a LHD Type R homebuilt...black/silver rims/220HP/ 8400/close-ratio/LSD/suspension/Brembos/Recaros/Body kit/etc. Where I live you could only import a JDM R as untitled... for Track Use Only. I have never driven a RHD car in any case, but someone might try to import one and get a title....

But back to the thread .... the "holy cow" factor is definitely between a Base and a Type S, ...and well worth the extra bucks. I just decided to get a base and go a step further and paid more for the Type R parts...for another "holy cow" factor

That's why I got the optional leather for my base automatic. My car looks like a Type S in every way (except mine's got the body kit!). But, honestly, although leather looks more "luxurious", I think the cloth interior is probably more comfortable. This also depends on taste.

I do think that the actual physical shifter on the automatic sounds pretty crappy and unrefined when you move it in and out of gears...though I have no idea how the shifter on the stick (base or S) sounds.

And I agree with someone who said that most stock stereos are crap...that'll be the next thing I change out, as well as new speakers.

I can get a base with leather and all that stuff if I want, but I dont want leather or a leaky sunroof. All type-s has on the base is speed. Im getting an auto 5-spd as well, I hate shifting, I like to relax and enjoy cruising.

And for the sound system, every car needs a better system, base or type-s, they both blow. Cloth feels better with no shirt on as well.

Each to their own, who cares. :D
