Broken Engine Bracket Bolts

124 Views 13 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  TendieAssassin
Hey...

Here's a pic of where my issue is circled in red, I promise it was the previous owner!

So after half an inch or so where the threads start inside the block there are 2 broken bolts.

What's the best way to extract them? It doesn't seem possible to fit a drill in that area.

Turns out it's been fine the past 2.5 years of ownership since I just discovered it but I would like to fix the problem so nothing else happens in the future.

Those don't look broke you should be fine. On top of that they look pretty EZ to get at to me. IDK

This is an example image as it would be hard to view the snapped stud inside the block. I was using it to show the location.
Here's one suggestion...

Oh, my bad. with everything going on in the world ya know. I would agree that does suc. Are you saying there broke 2 inches within the (block) hole?
Yes, right where the threads start

Get the P.S reserver out of the way. Un-do the exhaust get all mounts but the tranny disconnected lift or jack it up, the engine. Put a nut against there and weld it from the inside of said nut to said busted bolt and wrench it off. You might be able to get at it with just the removal of that pass. sd. mount then get a couple more inches with a jack leaving everything else alone. The heads aluminum but you could also add a washer between the stump and the said nut to be welded. That would help to protect the head but won't give as good a seat with the nut to the bolt.
It's about half an inch inside the block before the bolt and threads start.

Asked boss man today and he said to drill it out and use an extractor.

I have electric power steering but I'll definitely use your advice on the engine mounts.

Well that's neat, what did that setup cost and wouldn't that wear out pretty quickly or is this full blown race? I have my head off and compleated and starting on my short block. Wasn't with me to check. It sucs large anyway you slice it but I know you'll get it one way or the other. You kinda have too. Have you checked your frt. and rear mounts? I don't see how those could not have taken a beating?
So I'm with you now. Let us know what worked for you.

Huh, forgive my nieveity but that's not a factory option no? How many miles you got on that.
All EP3's come with an electric steering rack.

And it has 196,000 .mi

I did not know this. Why don't more people retro fit them to other models. Some people do away w P.S and A/C for those few extra pony's.
Pain in the ass and less feel in the steering.

But it's nice that it only uses HP when it's actually being used like at slow speeds
