You forgot to mention this part: if your dog needs an MRI, the veterinarian can do this tomorrow morning. If your wife needs an MRI, you'll be waiting in line for 6-10 weeks. This is absolutely true and sad. But that's the way Canada is. Now I will say that if the doctor decides the condition warrants it, you can have your MRI quickly. But that is an the discretion of the doctor. Clearly if the doctor suspects cancer, you'll probably be in tomorrow morning.
There are no family doctors accepting new patients anywhere in Ontario except in Toronto. Yes, there are pockets here and there, but generally don't expect to get primary medical care except in walk-in clinics where you'll be waiting for hours. See, our doctors get treated so badly by the government, that family doctors generally get their education and head south.
