So someone rear ended me last week. It was minor and the bumper just needed some sanding and repainting. Over the weekend, I removed it, sanded it, used some bondo on the parts where the paint was cracked, sanded it again. Then i put a layer of primer and sanded it again. It was a good coat so I just had one. Everything looked good. Then I applied two coats of paint. It still looked good. No dripping, nothing bad. I used a compressor and gun to do this btw. Then I applied two medium layers of clear coat. It all looked good, but when I came back yesterday to put it back on the car, the clear coat is not shiny and smooth like the rest of the car. It was, however, shiny the night before. I don't know what caused this. It's my first time working with this type of equipment and really painting. I had my uncle help me out and he said it just needs to be buffed out once it heals. But I don't know, it looks weird to me. It has a rough surface, kind of grainy. Any help is appreciated.

try cut and polishing, usually does the trick.

2000 grid wet/sandpaper wet sand it buff it and you should be good.
Next time you paint something make sure the temperature is warm and not cold. First 2 coats of clear should be between light and medium. Last cost (3rd) should be a heavy one.

does yours look similar to my front bumper?

some people told me to wetsand and polish. But when I took it to a shop they said I may damage the paint if I sand or buff cause the guy who painted my bumper didnt spray enough clear. Idk, should I go ahead and wetsand? or should I just polish it?

this has happened to me before on small pieces..i just put another coat on top and move my hand across slower and make sure i get complete coverage cause i think this happens sometimes due to over-spray(like if your doing the corner of a piece the over-spray gets onto the adjacent portions and doesnt settle nicely)

ok do i HAVE to put on another coat? because I already put three coats and its the same. can i just wetsand it with 2000 grit and buff/polish? i really don't want to take it off again to re-coat if its not necessary.

i mean you dont HAVE to do anything, im just saying whats worked for me in the past..try wetsanding/polishing and see if helps

better look of my paint on my fender you can see how the reflection differ from the rest of the car (worse condition than my bumper above). Let me know how your wetsanding and polishing go, i might try to do the same.

Wetsand that shit. I have spray painted, wetsanded and buffed and it has been shinier than that :thumbsup:
