My question has to do with the availability of the '05 to '06 Type S.

I've been wanting a newer one for about 3 years and was going to get a brand new one, but now that they've discontinued them I'm having a hard time finding used ones.

I've been checking weekly for the past 3 or 4 months just to get an idea of what is out there and right now in my area there are only 9 listed within 300 miles of me and 7 of them are bases while the two S's aren't the color I want.

I'm saving up and am on track to buy one in full by spring, because I don't want to have to deal with a car payment, but my question is do you guys think the availability and price on these cars will rise or fall?

Common sense would say the price would fall, but a lot of people have the mind set of "Now that the RSX is discontinued it is worth more than before" so they jack up the prices. I saw an '06 BOM S with 30K mileage listed at a local dealership for $24.5K! The Type S is already overpriced to begin with, so I just don't want to have to break the bank to get one.

It sucks too, because I want to find one with the lowest mileage possible and the longer I wait to get one, the more miles they rack up while the prices of them are barely dropping!

In short: Damn you Acura for getting rid of the RSX! :firemad:

The search is your friend first off.

the 05 and o6 are the same, it was just a change in the SAE rating, and try to find one on ebay or anywhere but a dealership.

The prices should gradually come down as time paes.

Thx, yeah I want to buy private party so I don't get screwed on the price, but a lot of them are at the dealerships that I've found and I don't feel comfy buying a car on ebay.

Do you honestly think the fact that the RSX is discontinued causes some mark up? I mean it would make sense, because the demand is there, but the cars are becoming increasingly hard to find.

It's just a double edged sword that resell value on these cars are so damn high.

When my dad was trying to buy a 2005 base RSX the dealer tried to tell us that it was worth 23,800 and they were giving him such a good deal at 20 :rotfl: :rotfl:

They must think people are retarded, luckilky I was there to let them know that the car didnt even cost that much new.

Just expand your search area, i dont know where you live but when I was searching there seemed to be a bunch in and around NY. Im sure you can find one, the hard part is finding one that isnt all modded and beat up already.
lol, I bought my base 04 at Bridgewater Acura in New Jersey about a month ago and it ended up being..17k something, I don't really remember right now but it had 32,000mi on it. I felt the price was maybe a bit high because there were a couple of minor issues, a few small scratches on the car, and some on my back bumper which the assholes decided to spray and I now have a quite beautiful line of paint dripping =) they did this without my knowing and I didn't even see it until I was home-2 hours away. Anyyyway, they had a bunchh of RSX's both base & type S. There was one they were selling for 24k I think..2006 Orange type S, and then a few others for around 21 or 22.

During my car search I kept getting told to by private parties and dealerships other than acura (Hassel Volvo, etc.) "jump on this car" lol since RSX's are very hard to find..I saw at least 6 or 7+ at most Acura dealership's I visited..maybe they are hard to find in some area's but in the Tri-State Area they are all over the place.

Damn $24k.

Thats what the sticker was roughly new.

I know, seeing all these '05s and '06s still in the 22K to 24K range is pissing me off and worrying me at the same time. I'm having a hard enough time finding some and then when I find one the price is insanely high.

I paid $22,400 for my '06 Type S. I can't figure out why anyone would feel the Type S is overpriced - you get a lot of car for the money when you add it all up, even in spite of some of the notorious problems with the car (every car has issues somewhere or another...).

Do yourself a favor. Save your money and then go spend $22k on a fucking Chevy and then come back and tell us how the RSX S is overpriced.

I know every car has its issues, it's just my opinion that for the price you pay the car lacks a lot of options (HID, MP3 Hook up, etc.) and it seems like you are paying for the "ACURA" name more than anything.

I know I'm not the only user who has this opinion.

After saying all of that though, I still want one and like it more than anything else out there right now.

I just think people want the prestige of driving an Acura instead of a Honda and this is why they can get away with pricing it a tad high and people will still buy it, even though it's technically a honda.

What's the actual date you are thinking of buying one??

Actual date is sometime in March, that's when my CD that I've had for a long ass time will finally be matured.

I am complaining about the price now however, because I have kept a close eye on the prices of RSX's in my area periodically and they aren't much lower now than when they first came out 1 or 2 years ago and that worries me because I don't foresee the price dropping much in the next year either when I am ready to buy one.

Especially with the whole "They are rare and hard to find so let's raise the price" bit going on now since they are discontinued.
why did they stop making rsx's?

hopefully the hype will go down, by then.
why did they stop making rsx's?
Because they came out with the Civic Si which was basically the same car for less with more, it was actually probably a wise desicion.
has anyone suggested getting a civic Si instead of an RSX?
sh*t if i had a choice i would definately choose the RSX, they are way sexier. Even though honda makes acura, i would choose acura over honda anyday.

I agree with this comment
