Hi so I will be staring a custom air box mod reason being I have short ram getting heal soak like a mofo and the fan kicks on and it blows hot air straight into the intake it's usually sitting at 104F sometimes a little higher. So I want to do something about it. I got a old air box from a friend as a gift and I saw Hondata had a custom mod you could do to it. https://www.hondata.com/index.php?_route_=tech-rsx-airbox
But I was thinking of going beyond that and getting the whole thing gutted. That's the idea now I also was wondering is there some kind of spray or coating I can put on the inside of the intake manifold so it can stay a little more colder? I also was thinking of putting that heat shield on the box like what they put under your cabin and over the headers. I thought that was over kill. So I want to hear ideas and I want to see pics of your guys set up . Thanks for the help!
I will be gutting it out and putting some kind of hi flow filter like injen mishimoto k&n something and I am thinking of making a pick up line straight through the grill to the airbox ? Thoughts?
I like the sound of that. I had customed an intake straight from my mugen hood, problem was it was getting too much air, and at the time i hadn't tuned for that and the car didn't run properly. So I put my custom intake on hold until i get a kpro. Idk if you will have the same problem as me or not, but I like hearing that sort of thing!:hb:
I have my kpro v4 but I'll not sure if I can get a proper tune my computer won't read the o2 sensor but I will ask my local tuner and ask what he thinks if it's possible or not
Yeah sounds good. And it's pretty sucky the whole kpro works and everything but I got an o2-04 sensor from rockauto and it didn't work to clear the code and it still read -32A instead of desired value and that's super sucky. But I will be posting pictures of all I will be gutting this will be a long process I'm guessing but I'm prepared
Alright guys here's a progress update. I know a lot of guys do a hondata mod and keep the stock filter on that mount made of plastic but what I will be doing is a k and n filter or something like that on the actual intake part
Right there I will be removing all fins so I can get the filter over it and clamp it down.
I will also be cutting off that side box which I'm assuming is the resonator box I think it'll just cut direct flow anything I deem isn't important I will be gutting. I will cut the whole box off and sealing off the hole that was left. I will be leaving the blow by hose hole though.
I have a short ram intake but I don't like it also I want to do this I want to see if I can get any gain out of this or any lower temperatures I want to make my own airbox I'm tired of having a no name sri lol
This is what I've done so far and I want to finish it up more. So far I gutted the tip it might not be pretty but it's hard to get everything smoothed out with such little space. But I gutted the resonator and closed it off. What I want to do is fit a air filter like a k and n one on the top intake.
What I want is for it to end like this.
The filter I have no isn't wide enough to go over the port. So I need a bigger one but I wouldn't know where to look. The box fits right over it.
The box fits good so I'll be doing more of a search on air filters.
Have you thought of maybe building a custom box around the air filter at the end of your SRI? Then extend a rectangular tube from the box to the top of your firewall/windshield cal? Doing this would have a ram air affect from the air coming off the windshield. I will try to draw up a quick sketch to show what I'm talking about.
I see what your saying but I think I'm gonna go with my design only because i didn't plan to do something like that and if I do that I would have to abandon all my work lol. But what's annoying right now is that I don't have all the bolts to the box I ordered a k&n filter for the box and I found some heat reflection with adhesive sides that I will be laying over the box.
Well so far I got a k&n air filter 4" inside diameter 5.5" base diameter and 5" in height it fits directly over the port after i elongated the port more upwards. It sits on three side teeth I will post pics later.
Yes I'm thinking of sanding only the bottom portion just a bit to smooth it a little more but the top half I will leave as is im going to be painting the inside of all of this with thermo paint that goes over heat fiberglass wrap. I will be buying it to paint it from aluminum to fat black anyways now I'm worried about the pickup line it's pretty difficult to find space on we're to route it.
Well here's an update got my k & n filter on and I'm starting to stick some protection over it that will reflect 90% radiation up to 2000F anyways I've lined up most of the box might need more now that I think about it. But it's coming along then I will spray it with the same company's matte black overlay to protect it further
I honestly don't know how to put up a video the vtec crossover isn't that loud but I don't care for the vtec crossover. Butttt it sounds real deep and it sounds a bit more aggressive and got rid of my sri whine which made me sound like I was building boost lol but now it's a rich deep tone across I like it it sounds a lot meaner I will post pics up with it finished and installed tomorrow in the morning.
Here it is it stopped intake whine and it's gone see noise now. Also it might be improving mpg I used to get 230 per tank lol so let's see what happens.
