Okay guys/gals it's a long way til spring. At least for most of us. Imagination is the only thing we got to hold us over unless we want to freeze our asses off.
Here's your assignment. Describe your favorite ride. Anything goes. It could be:
Your favorite (imaginary or real) bike.
Your favorite route or ride i.e. canyon, desert, beach, mountain, river, etc.
A perfect ride day, either climate or situation, time of day, time of year, etc.
Perfect circumstances: with a loved one, group ride, destination ride, etc.
Be creative, use descriptive language, pix okay but take us there in words.
I'll go first.
My favorite ride is a scenic drive cut into the cliffs of the new jersey palisades. It runs the lenght of the cliffs, rising high above the Hudson river and then dipping down near the river's shore. There are crashing waterfalls and views of the jagged cliffs reaching up to the sky. The road has no lights, no regular traffic, no intersections, and no guard rails. The worse (and most possible) thing that could happen on a bike is riding too fast around a turn and literally riding off the cliffs. The entire route is cut out of thick woods with hiking trails and wild life. I see deer, eagles, hawks, and wild turkeys along with baby chipmunks. In the fall the trees are ablaze with autumn colors. It takes my breathe away and makes all things right in the universe. There is also a climate difference by at least 10 degs. Making a cooler ride in the sticky Jersey summers.
The route ends as I ride under the majestic George Washington Bridge that leads to Manhattan. Then I turn around and do the whole loop again. The entire ride takes me about an hour and half. I ride it at least six times a week.
I live five minutes by back roads to this road. I firmly beleive that if it were not for this road I would have not continued to ride for over three decades.
Okay now it's your turn. Feel free to post more than once on different types of rides. I'll be back to describe the experience of riding on my Kawaski Vulcan Classic.
