Are you talking about where to cut it?

There are videos online on how to cut rear quarter panels. You have to keep in mind that they consist of two layers, inner and outer.

I've searched online. Nothing specific about an rsx. If there are any pointers on where to start cutting, what to use to cut. what to avoid. I've watched a bunch and each car is different. Was hopi g to hear from someone who has do e it. Thanks for.your replies

Cant speak specifically to the rsx but working in a bodyshop I've observed the replacement of a number of quarters.

**Assuming youre talking about "direct replacement"**

Generally you want to remove the smallest area you can(ie. as close as you can get to the damage)

You also want to avoid any body lines or complex angles. Assuming your replacement quarter is good then it makes most sense to cut on the flatest area possible as you won't be stuck trying to perfect body lines that were already factory.

You can use whatever youre comfortable with to cut it (i know a guy who uses an air hammer with chisel attachment, then refines the edge with a grinder).

You MUST cut your replacement so there is as little of a gap between the hole in your original and the replacement. You can give yourself some leeway here but cutting along a seem, this lets you weld to another component instead of butting panels together; however this relies on your new quarter being almost completely perfect.

If you have any more specific questions feel free to ask as Im not quite sure what you'd like to know.

3 year bump

I didn't want to start a new thread for this post, so I figured bumping this one would be nice.

I just bought a set of Type R quarter panels which I will be using to replace my rusty ones. I've had them for 2 weeks and so far I put in about 4 hours of work removing the driver's side skin off the Type R set. I used the following tools: hammer, chisel, drill, 1/8th drill bit, spot weld cutter bit, etc.. When removing from the car, you will definitely need some sort of cutting tool and you will have to decide where you will be making your cuts.

The quarter panels are held on by spot welds. If you put your finger in the middle of your quarter panel and move it outward in any direction, you will see each spot weld at the end. They are circles and they are usually about 2" apart and go along the edges of each qp.

I do plan on fully replacing mine and will definitely post up a diy for everyone to see :vtec:

Hey there I am brand new on the page, and I've wanted to reply to this for a while but when you are done with the quarter panel replacement (assuming it is the rear quarter panels just like what I am trying to do?) I am looking forward to the DIY instructional. Private message me if you feel like it to further discuss.:fistbump:

Hey, I am lucky to get a full week off during Thanksgiving. That's when I'm planning on knocking out the quarter panels. I'll pm you.

Where to look?

It's hard to believe that there are still some good donor rear quarter panels out there. I could use a pair myself. Where to start looking?
I found mine at JdmOhioDirect but I literally bought the last set. There are countless of dealers all over the US that cut up Dc5 type Rs but I haven't seen the quarter panels. I'm sure they are out there though. Just have to search. I was eye balling these for almost a year before I made the purchase. Looking forward to the install and Diy.

Ok, so I've started the quarter panel replacement. I honestly thought that I would have it done quickly but unfortunately it's going to take me a little longer to finish. I've already started the diy instructions on a google doc and I took a bunch of pictures. Once I'm done, I'll start a new thread and post everything up. Hope this helps others who want to get rid of rust the right way.

Here are two links of places in the US that are currently selling quarter panels:

I can’t wait to see your amazing work, good sir! It sounds like there are many people rooting for you to finish it up exactly as you want!

This is going to be big for the community, our beloved RSXes are beginning to rust more and more, so it’s high time we have a stellar example to guide the rest of us! ?

Thank you, I can't wait to share my results as well. Unfortunately I couldn't take any videos because I did all the work by myself.

Am I the only person who scares to say anything about removing something?cause a man can just break the item))
I felt the same way but after so many attempts to bondo (hide) the rust, I've decided enough is enough. It's not even done yet but I'm so happy with the results thus far.

Were you able to get everything buttoned up just right? I’d love to see some steps with pics or whatever you have!

Hey, I'm currently having an issue posting pics on here. Waiting for admin to help out with that one. I'm open to share my pics with your or anyone else as I wait. Just pm me an email. I'll be happy to answer any questions as well. The car is done as far as the quarter panels go. It needs a paint job because at the moment it's painted primer white, but that's another story. I haven't been driving it because of the pandemic but it looks so much better after getting rid of the rust. Now I'm focusing on minor details like POR15 the under carriage and things like that. Here's my post in case you didn't see it in the DIY section: DIY: Dc5/Rsx Quarter Panel Replacement
