I normally use Dawn to clean the car before a new wax.

Use it only if you need to remove a carnauba based wax. It will do nothing for synthetic sealants and repetitive use may damage your vehicle's trim.

only use dawn before a full detail, and after using dawn, use a regular car wash to remove the dawn. dawn soap will dry the paint, and ruin the trim if u dont rinse it off well, and wash again afterwards. honestly, i dont even use it, b/c a good claying and chemical polish and or abrasive polish will remove all the old crap

exactly what i do. i dont even do a dawn wash anymore, i just use my regular car soap. i think i might use the isophroyl alcohol method next time and see how it works

oh man i have a friend with a 13 maxima and he used to use dawn every time he washed.... there is little or no shine on his paint at all, even with wax

he needs a good compound and polish to bring back that shine

Dawn works to remove old wax, but it won't work on synthetic products like Klasse or Zaino. Alcohol works too. They are both pretty harsh though.

I don't recommend doing it very often. Just once a year to prevent build up and yellowing of wax. If you are already using a synthetic, there's no reason to strip it.

I usally, if i and going to polish and wax, i will dawn wash and clean everything with it. Then clay then wash again, then use SSr1 with the pc. then wax an seal.
