Well this past weekend we tackled the electronic power steering project on my 06 RSX Type-S and had great success.
Other RSX owners have been unsuccessful in getting the eps rack to work on the 05-06 rsx because these rsxs use a high frequency vss signal. Hybrid racing came out with a converter to change that high frequency signal to a low frequency signal which it does well. So once it is wired in we were able to uncheck the countershaft driven speedsensor option in kmanager and the guage cluster and rack worked.
When we first started this on Sat our goal was to determine whether or not the 06 guage cluster ran off a low or high frequency signal and it was found that it runs off a low frequency signal. I was shocked that hondata did not know this or just chose to not disclose this information for whatever reason which is perfectly fine. Either way a few tests and we had the frequency identified. Once we had the speedo in the dash working correctly we knew the rack would work as well which was the case.
There are few side affects of this install which are good and one is not so good. The good news is that cruise control now works for me which it never had before for any length of time and also the speedo does not periodically drop off anymore which is why cruise would kick off on us. The not so good news is that the hybrid device is calibrated for 15" wheels and not 17" wheels so the speedo is off. We are currently looking into a few options for this as well.
The one item we did not explore is if kpro does send a low frequency signal to the speedo why wouldnt the rack work without the hybrid device. The answer is I think it would but there is a catch. I do not think I would want to run this rack with the kpro signal because if you are a 05-06 rsx owner we all get the crazy drop in speedo readings from kpro. With this in mind I would hate to be driving down the road and all of a sudden have power being given to the rack because the vss signal fluctuates. Doesnt sound safe to me.
While putting in an EPS rack is not for everyone it was a great mod for me since we are working on putting a Lysholm Twinscrew blower in the car. With that said this speed converter seems like it would be a good item for those of you who like your cruise control. I have sent an email out to HYbrid to inquire about a resolution with not being able to calibrate the device. I have looked at the Dakota Digital product which seems to do the same thing and is cheaper but since I had invested in the hybrid I thought I would work with them before going with the dakota device. Either way I will have a resolution.
The Dakota Digital unit works WONDERFUL. I was able to easily calibrate for my wheel size and the best part it is only 79.95 bucks and some shipping compared to $200 for the Hybrid. It wires in the same as the Hybrid with one additional ground for the unit itself which I grounded on the frame.
12 volt - same as Hybrid
ground - same as Hybrid
Sensor Ground - Ground on the frame somewhere
Speed input signal - same as Hybrid
Calibrated AC output signal - same as Hybrid
so the A18 has to be cut, the power for the vss sensor, does it have to be tap by the connector only? what about in Kpro, uncheck the 05 speed sensor option?

well i meant like i didnt wanna run the power wire all the way to the vss connector by the tranny lol. i was asking like if i could run the power wire from IG1 to vss for power by the dash before kpro instead of all the way to the tranmission. I'm gonna go do it now neway, hopefully my eps motor is still good haha.
well thanks for all the help! especially texas's guy and the stig. my EPS took a shit. I got the speedo to work so obviously it has signal. no power steering still.
I got mine for 150 on sale but they went back to 200. The Dakota Digital does the same thing for 80. I just got mine but havent wired it in yet but will update thread soon enough. The Dakota you can calibrate for wheel size.
good stuff. curious to know is there any other benefits from doing the swap besides not haveing the extra pulley and more belt wrap? why is this better if u convert to twin screw? also does the steering feel better? is eps better than hydrolic? sorry for the noob question. also where is a good place to purchase a eps system and what peices of it do u need? rack , ecu, anything else
nice, ive been waiting for someone to figure it out, now i need to find a eps rack. also cant you do the vss calibration in kpro or does they hybrid converter mess that up?

Hey everyone,
At the moment I'm running an 05-06 type-s exhaust (for the sake of having a fairly quiet dd) on an s/c set-up but am wanting to move to a more free flowing exhaust with an ID of 2.5" or greater (for the sake of letting the engine breathe more effectively). The majority of the time...
I’ve searched for hours & couldn’t find anything sorry if it’s already been asked before but I’m new here. I have a 2002 RSX Type S K20a2 with the JRSC race edition still the stock BP (4”) that came with the supercharger. I saw the JMERC auto tensioning Bracket’s but for the past 3 weeks...

Hi I am new to the forum so let me know if I’m doing anything wrong 🙂. I am looking at a 2003 Acura RSX type s with a Jackson racing supercharger, an injun cold air intake, and a hondata k-pro. What I was wondering is, is it bad for the engine to not have an inter cooler for the supercharger...
