(Not really sure where a thread like this belongs, so I thought I'd throw it in here)

Hey guys, so I picked up this Type-S about 6 months ago from a friend who crashed it and didn't want to spend money on fixing the damage.

The car is pretty mint other than the damage: 1 owner for 10 years before him, 119,000 miles, new tires, brakes, and fairly well taken care of.

I changed the oil, belt, and put in a fresh set of plugs when I bought it ,thinking i'd fix the body damage temporarily, and just drive it until I had enough downtime to rip it all apart and weld in a new quarter panel.

Now, I only paid $1500 for the car because it would have cost my friend $5,000 to fix it through the body shop, and he originally paid $8,000 back in 2013.

Now that I've had the car for a while, welding in that new quarter panel is starting to feel like more and more of a big and expensive job.

I've sourced a panel for $350, and the local Honda body shop quoted me $750 to paint both quarter panels once the car is fixed, however I'm worried about undertaking this job and fucking it up somehow. I know I can do it, however I'm wondering about things like current value, the resale value once fixed, and wether it's even worth repairing the car.

Here are some pictures of the damage before and after repair:

DISCLAIMER: I fucking suck at body work (skills of a 3 year old) had VERY limited amount of time and like NO money, and used a bunch of left over fiberglass and filler that sat in my garage for over a year.

I know the repair job looks like shit, however I didn't want to put a ton of effort into it knowing it was all getting ripped out anyway, it just had to be "good enough" not to look like it was totalled.

I wouldn't sell it like that, unless you plan to sell it for cheap.

Just weld the new quarter panels in and keep it. If salvage title bothers you then sell it for a bit more then you paid as is and get a clean title dc5.

Thanks for the replies. However, who said anything about a salvage title? The car has a clean title, the guy I bought it from did not have collision coverage since it was a one car accident out in the country.

gotcha, ok so clean title - but I mean more so that if it bothers you that its been hit and mis aligned etc, then sell for a tad more and get one that is straight.

If it doesn't then swap the quarters or get the rear sections patched and keep it. Or throw chargespeed overfenders on the rear since its already been hit.

I didn't know that Charge speed overfenders existed! I can not seem to find a good picture of them separate from the car. I dont think that the car got THAT tweaked in the wreck, it felt more like a crumple zone that got smashed in.

I think I'm just gonna fix it now.... sometimes it's hard to make decisions when you see a situation from so many different angles. It feels like no matter what I do, there are always decisions which benefit me in one way, yet cost me in another. Because of this, it's hard to figure out which benefits vs costs outweigh the others.

Or, you could be really daring and get the M & M honda widebody- the rear over's would cover most if not all of the panel damage. + the kit looks pretty sweet as well.

Actually, I take that back, the upper area wouldn't be covered. I guess if you went aftermarket then chargespeed would cover more.

Here is a set that was on ebay, auction ended but there are photos of them off the car:
