Originally my next mod was going to be the #4 flash but now with all the hype and scalability on the K-pro I'm thinking about saving up the extra cash to go with K-pro even though I won’t really utilize it for at least a year. I have a cai now but it's not in my sig, wanted to wait till have at least a few goodies heh.

I'm staying N/A and my logic is when I can afford a header/exhaust (+ possible cam) I'm thinking if at that point if I was running the k-pro with a few hours of quality tuning I'll get more out of my I/H/E because the ecu can be tuned for my specific product combination, What do you guys think? I may be waaay off here but I'm going with the assumption that when your car is being tuned they don't have access to the fuel maps and ecu in general so if I brought my car to the shop k-pro equipped it would give them access to really get in and fine tune things. If that's not the case and any legitimate tuner can get in and tweak the ecu then would the additional 400.00 for the k-pro be worth it for me considering I'm staying n/a?

Money is SUCH an issue for me, I'm married w/ child and mods for my ride are at the very very very bottom of "our" priority list so I just need to be sure I'm maximizing my dollars, I can't afford to really tinker around and experiment know what I mean? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks a ton guys,
-m

fig, same boat here. No kids yet... but we're working on it.

You want to follow the biggest bang for the buck modifications. There's a path to do so without having to waste any money. Where each mod is layered with the other mod. For engine performance, my recommendation is this:

1) CAI
2) Motor Mount inserts the a engine damper
3) Hondata STD reflash

Those mods alone will make you faster then 99 percent of the cars on the road. If your small and thin enough, you'll be running 14 flat. The mount inserts are a significant performance upgrade, don't let the price fool you. I'm going without for now because I don't do high-RPM launches, and I'm biding time because I have a set for free to pick up and I'm also waiting for ingalls damer reviews.

That would be all you need for sometime. Of course you can get a new cat-back exhaust too.

When you're ready for the K-PRO, like when you've added cams and/or race exhaust, you just spend 500 bucks and can upgrade to the K-PRO. You lose only 100 bucks, but consider it the fee for having had use of the STD flash the entire time.

As for fun bang for buck, nothing beats suspension modding. A rear sway bar is a great upgrade for less 100 bucks.

My 2 cents.

I totally agree, go ahead and get the Hondata-4 flash now and you can upgrade to the discounted K-Pro later, your money won't be wasted. The K-Pro is an exciting product, but most of us daily drivers don't really need it (but then again, how many of our mods do we really "need" :)). Save up, those "few hours of quality tuning" cost a lot more than one might think.

i'll have to agree also, get hondata 4 now and then if u plan on gettin some serious mods like cams or a race header just upgrade to the k-pro. a new set of tires will greatly improve your cars handling.

Yeah ok cool, I'll hold off on the pro-k and go for the reg #4 flash. I'm pretty stoked about that alone but I wanted to be sure I wasn't cutting myself short.

Thanks for the advice,

get the hondata 4 flash...and upgrade later. dyno tunning can cost a lot, and if you want a shop to dyno tune ur car correctly, you have to have the tuner take his time.

It would be way cooler if everyone posted, after mine, something like, "benca1 is right as usual," or at least give me, "I totally agree with benca."

(lil off topic here:
rsxmachine; 10K in kitchedn upgrades!? My wife is a trained chef. We're saving for a house here in the bay area, that's why I'm always whining and complaining. In all truth, I would rather have property then 220 horses. No that's not true, but I want it to be true... )

not trying to jack this thread...but it kinda goes along with the topic.

i too was debating this...and i guess i'll get the flash for now too.

my question is, should i get the RH or hondata flash first? i have i/e right now. i plan on doing IM gasket soon too. i want the toda header, so i'll have to upgrade my rear sway bar also. so should i do header/sway bar/o2 sim, or the flash first? which would have better gains if done first.

i'm thinking that i may get the flash and that i should wait on prototype racing and their header to come out, and while waiting i could fix my suspension (blown shocks) and get coilovers.

my 2 cents; get hondata first. It should be the second power mod you do, with a cai being the first.

10K in kitchen upgrades... so far. there a few things remaining to be done. all stuff we didn't really "need". looks really great though. meals are really great too, but arguably not 10K better (my wife would be punching me in the arm right about now). and now the disease is spreading to other rooms of the house. just picked up a fantastic Italsofa sectional & recliner for the tv room for 2 grand, and we are replacing most of our wall decor, which of course means I have to repaint.

ahh, the endless time and money pit of home ownership. don't let Paige and her home-decorating hotties fool you.

oh man... we have that disease too, it started in our son's room and has now spread to the dining room and has started crop up on the living room floor and the kitchen. My wife knows that once something has started I can't leave it unfinished so for intance, in the dining room (TOTALLY untouched by the disease) just over a month ago she said maybe it's a good idea to go ahead and get measurements for a replacement window since were going to home depot anyhow that way we can get the order in for the replacement window. Like a dumb caveman not wary to the tricks women play I get the DIY gleam in my eye and whip out the tape measure and next thing you know the window is on order. Last weekend we get the call saying the window is in, I go pick it up and install it that weekend and OF COURSE I'm thinking dam man... nice window, we need to paint the dining room now and I can't do that unless I go back to the depot (I call it the temple) and pick up some baseboard, window trim, and a replacement light for the 25+ year old thing hanging in there, so in all about $500 bucks later this weekend I'm doing the finishing touches on the dining room. This happens ALL the time, meanwhile I'm scraping pennies for mods while my little whirling dervish wife plants her disease in every room she can. It's this ongoing battle and I see other guys on this board are fighting the same battle, were never going to win man... just never, they are WAY too smart because the moment you think you can overcome their latest plot they evolve their plan and throw us off again while we hammer/trim/paint/seal/tile away.

It gets me thinking, my cordless drill is a nice hearty 18v from sears... I love it and love all my tools but I think on a larger scale I'm just a power tool, my wifes power tool haha. Could you imagine if we could just roll up to sears or the depot and pick up a human to do things, then as time goes by you upgrade them with things like mitre saw, cordless drill, chainsaw, nice tool chest, belt sander, drywall tools, so your human tool is more efficient etc... thats basically what my wife does to me... she lets me get these items because I'm so easily entertained by the latest tool/gadget all the while I'm busting my ass on her great plan! Sorry to go off post guys! I love my wife with the heat of 1000 suns and my world revolves around her and my son I'm just whining.

thanks for the laff, I feel your pain bro. women ARE smarter than men. like Sisyphus pushing the rock, we are their dullish manservants who toil endlessly to fulfill their every whimsy, all in the name of love.

back on topic, I see you live on the east coast. with better gas, 30"Hg barometric pressure we get near sea level, and mild temps much of the year, you will get the most out of the Hondata-4 flash. I thoroughly enjoyed it for the 7 months I had it. now I've got to get out of winter laziness mode and finish my Toda install.

I wouldn't be modn' a car if i had a kid !! Save up for a STI or something lol ...

The point is to free up as much money as possible.. So get the #4.. then when the time comes when you need a more advanced ecu... add the 500 bills later and get it upgraded. Simple as that!

I considered the STI but I cant get past the boy racer vibe it puts off. Plus after about a week I'd be hating myself because I COULD have been in a g35 coupe for that kind of money. It's easy to take our son in and out of my rsx, actually it's easier in my car than her 4 door (Jetta) because in her car like most 4 doors the child seat teathers are in the middle over the hump, in our cars we have latches on both sides so unlike her car I don't have to crawl up in it to grab my son out. It's still not right... I realize that haha but I wanted an rsx bad.

As for mods I just have to take it one step at a time, in a way it's better because I'll be able to appreciate each part because once comes every damn 6-8 months, where before I'd basically buy mods in clumps and not fully realize each parts contribution. Sounds pathetic I know but I have to hold onto some type of positive thread of logic.
