Hydrolocked and blew up my engine last night

Im pretty sure the block is fine, I did a quick assessment and looked underneath. I couldn't see any oil dripping out, the engine wasn't smoking, but it did smell bad. I think a piston shattered but I don't think I threw a rod.

I got onto the highway and at the bottom of the on ramp there was about 1-2 ft. of water (it has been raining here for 4 days, we have had about 10 in.). I didn't see it at first then a tractor trailer went through it. I tried to follow him hoping he splashed a lot out of the way but when I hit it the engine died. I pulled over on the side of the road and got the engine started again. There was a weird noise and the car was smoking and smelled weird. After about 30 sec. though the engine sounded fine and was running fine. I went down the highway and the car ran fine. I got to 119th st and turned right to go home. I went through first gear, went into second and was driving in second when I heard a hundred BBs bounce around in the engine and the car stalled. I rolled into a parking lot and got out. It smelled weird so I started walking back towards where it blew. I didn't see any metal pieces anywhere or large amounts of oil. I am going to pick it up today and I guess I will start taking it apart. Am I going to need an engine puller to get it out to really assess the damage or can I just drop the oil pan and look there?

I think I have a 5 year, 60K mi. warranty so I may try to get it covered. Thats going to be a battle!

Ouch....Good luck with the fix man. Hope warrenty covers it
I swam through about 50 pools and puddles in the thunder storm last nite. SRI FTW!

lol you funnay
the only problem with trying to get the warrenty to cover it is that they can directly link the hydrolock with a modification you did. Which in turn, voids the warrenty.

If you had the stock airbox, and went through the puddle though, and hydrolocked, that would be a different story. But unfortuanately i think that's how it works.

sorry for my spelling, i don't have spell check in opera browser.

good luck though, i hate to see our engines go :-(

This. Even if you put the stock airbox back on and tried to tell them that you hydrolocked like that, I'm betting they'd catch on to your act, especially if you've been to that dealer before with your intake on, or if you have other mods. Plus, such an act is basically stealing from the dealership.

GL w/ whatever you do though.
Who gives a fuck about 'stealing' from a dealership. Good luck with everything man!
if your really worried about the dealer finding out you could also replace the fender lining you had to cut? I thought about that when I hydro locked.
If you try to get it warrantied, they will call you on it for sure. How can you hydrolock our engines with a stock air box? Unfortunatly man I personally think you are SOL, but hopefully everything works out for you though

+1
fuck it stealing from the stealership is the right thing to do, they steal form customers and Acura all the time
This sucks. My friend with his '05-S with the Fujita CAI hydrolocked 2 days ago. He was oober fuggen LUCKY because where he stalled out at, just so happened to be a car shop and they sucked the water out of his engine.
Well that's what he told me...might have been over reacting.
no way in hell will acura cover a blown motor bcuz of a hydrolock w/ warranty, believe me..my friend is the service manager @ acura and he even said "before there was ways to get around of replacing a blown motor, but now its really hard" and i asked him what if its the stock intake? and hes like stock intake can't/won't take water into the motor, look at how its made...
hes right, obviously honda made the stock intake like that so it DOESNT suck in water.

That doesn't mean shit, I can find a way around it...

The problem is I am out of warranty. I am going to see if my insurance will cover it. I guess its a possibility because I was operating the vehicle at the time and a force outside of the car cause the motor to blow...it wasn't just old age of the engine or natural causes. My car only has 53K miles on it.
sry to hear man

who is that in your Avy looks like a co-worker of mine....got bigger pics?

That doesn't mean shit? Ok, prove to acura that honda's engineers were incorrect on making the stock intake, and even the stock intake can suck in water. And you never mention anything about having insurance cover it, all I'm saying is that acura WONT cover it under warranty.

wtf azad :rotfl:
if you try the insurance company let us know how it turns out, a friend of mine did that and they just totaled out the car. I think he had state farm but im not quite sure:dontknow:
Have a hyrdo shield? I recently purchased a CAI and got the HS and have yet to install it. How effective is the HS for those who have it?
