Injen CAI filter cleaning time

695 Views 7 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Mistaken
OK. I think its time to clean my CAI filter (12,000 miles) and I plan on doing it myself so its the first attempt at taking off the front bumper. I''m OK with this but thought someone could help me out understanding a couple of things so i don't take apart more things than I have to.

I have an 05 with OEM front lip and foglights. Do I have to take the front lip off of the front bumper before i take it off? Or will the whole thing come off together? Also, do I have to take my fogs out and disconnect them before i take front bumper off?

I know these may seem like pretty stupid questions to some of you but the way I see it, if i can get some info from those who have already gone thru this, it will save me some time and most likely a lot of aggravation. Thanks a lot for advice and not flaming me.

Lip is part of the bumper...so its together

you just have to unplug the fogs before you completely remove bumper

i just cleaned the filter a few days ago...its a joke

K&N recharge filter can be purchased at autozone (or the like)

you spray it with some cleaner..let it sit for 10min
then rinse it out from the inside -out
repeat if necessary

let it dry

oil the filter lightly

does wonders if u ask me
done

When you say "oil the filter lightly"

What do you mean exactly? What type of oil? Do you spray it on there or rub it in?

I've got about 15,000 miles or so on mine. I was just gonna order a new one if it was really dirty. I didn't know those K&N Recharge kits actually worked.

Thanx,

I just used the K&N kit And I can believe how good it works it was like night and day when I got back in my car but it had been a LONG time since I cleaned my filter. The Kit comes with a oil that you squeeze out of a bottle and you just glide the tip of the bottle along the filter so you cover the ridges so that the oil drips to the bottom half (bottom of the ridge). There is a metal strip at the bottom the filter that’s where I started so I knew I had covered the whole thing. Or an easier way is to buy the oil in a spray bottle and spray it over the entire filter. Once you let the oil sit for 20 min there should not be much or any dripping oil if there is you put too much oil on. Hope that all made sense.
K&N kit comes in 2 different kinds. 1, like described above, is a squeeze bottle. the other is a spray can. i prefer the can, you can get light mists on the filter easy.
Awsome stuff...thanx guys I appreciate it.
