Installing TL?CL rearview??

1381 Views 10 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  mad-scientist
Hello everyone,
I already posted this in the "How do I?" forum, but wasn't sure if it's the appropriate place. So, I decided to ask the same question here. Is it possible to install the Acura TL/CL auto-dimming rearview in the RSX-S? I was wondering if anyone has ever tried doing something like this, and if they did, was the wiring a mess?? Thanks in advance guys.

Hey all,
I've tried doing a search on the rearview mirror, but no hits. Does anyone know how to do this???:dontknow:

:wavey: TTKRSX: I purchased and auto dimming mirror with outside temp and compass and it really was quite easy to install. The particular mirror that I have mounts to the windshield so I had to glue the mount to the glass which was no big deal. In regards to the wiring. I routed the wires behind the head liner and ran them down the drivers side A pillar. To get switched power for the mirror, I tapped into the relay that supplies power to the rear cigarette lighter. This relay is mounted behind the sunroof, driving lights, outside mirror panel on the dash. The wires for the outside temperature sensor were run through the rubber grommet on the drivers side door frame, up through the fender and then back down into the front bumper of the car. Mounted on the drivers side of the front bumper is the factory temperature sensor for the Heating and Air conditioning. I mounted the new temp sensor right on top of the factory unit. The intire install took about 1.5 hours. I could have done it a lot quicker, but those darn beer breaks just take so much time.

By the way, how much was the TL mirror?

Good luck and I hope this helps.

Hey Mad-Scientist,
Thanks a lot for getting back to me. After reading your pic, it sounds like a lot of work. I'm not sure if I want to glue anything onto the windshield itself. How does yours look from the outside?? How much did you pay for the rearview and from where?? Could you post a pic?? As far as a price is concerned for the TL mirror, I have no idea. I'm stopping by Park Ave dealership on Friday to see if it could be done and to see how much it would cost. I'll keep you guys posted, but in the meantime, if anyone else has done this, please reply, because I'm itching to do this. Thanks in advance.

:wavey: ttkRSX: It really is not that much work. The hardest part of the install was wiring into the factory relay. I used a relay harness that matched exactly the Honda harness. I put spade terminals on the ends and plugged it into the fatory harness. The wires for the mirror were tapped off of the new harness and the original factory relay was plugged into the new harness. Aside from that, everything else was a snap.

In regards to glueing to the windsheild. All that you need to do is mark on the outside of the glass with a greese pencil where you want to mount the button. Then clean the inside really good with rubbing alcohol and then just glue it to the glass. Now from the outside of the car, it looks like any other mirror because virtually all mirrors are mounted to the glass.

The mirror that I have is from MITO Corp. and it was 258.00 which included shipping. You can check them out at Mito Corp. .

In regards to a pic. I will see what I can do, just give me a day or two.

If you don't want to run the temp sensor, mito has different mirrors. So I think you can just get one that is auto dimming and would only have to run Two wires to it. Mine is auto dimming, Outside temp, and hall effect compass. But even it only had 5 or six wires, I really can't remember.

Anyway, if you have any more questions, please let me know.

Best regards,

:wavey: Well here is a quick pic of the mirror. I know from the picture that you probably can't see the compass and temp but it is really very clear when you are looking at it from inside the car.

Sorry, couldn't get it to go. Give me your email address and I will send it to you.

Best regards,

:wavey: Trying one more time.

cant you just go the the acura dealer and ask them to install the cl\tl rear view mirror for u?
:wavey: It's not that simple for the dealer to do. The RSX was designed for that mirror. So the wiring does not exist and you would have to pay 65.00/hr to have them figure it out and then run the wires. By the time they were done, it would probably cost you a mint.
