So my car was fucked up last week. I was not at fault. I was rearended and pushed hard into the car. Car is an obvious total. What I am curious about is how to approach the claim with the insurance. It will be someone elses liability paying for this.

I made a spread sheet after printing out receipts for all of my parts. Basically I put the parts purchase price plus labor hours for installation at a fair shop rate of 70hr (which is actually prob below avg for my area). Basically I totaled like 4200 in parts and 3000+ in labor. What I would like to do is get them to pay me for those parts and labor. When homie hit my car, he bought it in my opinion. Then I would like to buy it back and part it out. If they did pay me for the parts and labor would they consider that in the buyback price? I don't know if this will work, but this is how I would like to do it if I could get away with it.

or should I

Quickly return the car back to stock as close as possible. Take all of my parts off before they try to adjust it and settle it. I can then of course sell the parts on here, and not worry about the price of the parts being lost. However I am losing a shit load of labor that I put into the car.

What do yall think? Anyone ever deal with this. I wanna get as much out of this as I can not because I am greedy, but they basically killed my firstborn child, and I want retribution.

If he gives me 7200 plus the car value he can keep every part. I would ask about buyback value but im assuming it would be much higher. If he does give me the 7200 plu blue book fuck it. Id be happy.

most insurance co. will give you two quotes. One for the total worth of the car and a lower total for one where you keep the vehicle and the parts on it... well at least that it what they did for me when I totaled my motorcycle.

Most insurance companies will NOT cover the cost of after market parts that are installed on the car. They might be more likely to cover the cost of the aftermarket parts if you show them the parts list with the receipts for the purchase price. That being said they are more than likely not going to give you any money for instalation costs...

My advice is figure out what you think you can get for the aftermarket parts if you part out. figure in you time dealing with people flaking on purchases and shipping costs. figure out what its worth for your time parting the car out. Take that number and see if the difference between you keeping the car and them just taking the whole thing is about the same. If its around the same number I say just let them take the car with the aftermarket parts but if the difference is quite a bit smaller then part it out...

I hope that last part made sence... And remember you can't figure in the cost of labor into your total...

this is not going to happen. You are more than likely not going to get what kbb says the car is worth from the insurance company to begin with. You might be lucky if they are somewhere around the trade in price.

say your car is worth on 10k on kbb from a dealeship, more than likely they will give you less than that, they will prob quote you aprox what you could trade the car in for, somewhere maybe around 6k. If you can prove your parts are wort 4k (not including labor) they might be willing to give you the 4k on top of what they quote the cars worth at.

and KBB is the worst place to go for a cars worth...

yes YOUR isurance company will cover aftermarket parts on YOUR car. Mine does too... But you tell me if you hit a car and total thier car, with 5k in aftermarket parts, will they cover the damage to your aftermarket parts AND their's???
