JRSC belts & pulleys: please discuss it here

I know a lot of us JRSC guys having or had problems with our belts and pulleys and a lot of time we hijacking other threads because of it, so I thought it was a good idea to start up on a thread just about jrsc belts and pulleys. The thread is not only for current jrsc peeps but also for the newbies as well so they won't get us frustrated asking the same question over and over again.

I'll start off with one question, I read around and found a member who is using a goodyear 070775 belt which is 7 rib and 77.5 inches long. I tried a dayco belt that was 77.5 long and it wasn't even anywhere close to fitting onto the 3.4 pulley. The dayco 78.9 belt fit extremely well for the purpose. What I want to know is that anyone else tried the goodyear 77.5 long on a 3.4 pulley or is it because different makers make belt a little bit different in length.

I think the sc kit back in the days was better made than now. As far as I know, everyone who got the kit since march had threw a belt. Very nice going there norman sipp, u are the JRSC OG lol
Not true..

I recieved my kit after March.... I had it professionally installed and they had to tweak it slightly (pulley/belt) But I have had no problem

S/C and belt are running strong...

Nope...I'm still on the original belt and I've had my charger longer than sonny. I've also upgraded from street to race and from race @ 5# to race @ 7# and still have no belt problems

Hey Norm, it was great meeting you....

Hope to see you at more meets

True O.G.

I got mine during the CRSX special back in March and my belt is still on. My two questions about the throwing/shredding belts are:

1. How many of you installed the SC yourselves (I absolutely mean no disrespect to you, I admire your desires to work on your cars. I wish I had ANY mechanical inclination when it came to cars)?
Anyways, keep on boosting!

I'm with chk............

no disrespect, but it does seem alot of the ppl who installed these kits themselves have had these problems. So i'm wondering if it a simple fix that a person, who normally doesn't work on cars, is missing :dontknow:

yes i am...i have been running this new belt(7rib poly-v!!)w/out issues...i hold the title i'm sure for broken belts...i have had this kit in the car for 9 months now, and i can tell you my belt problems are gone for now. oh and i have said this before...have a spare in the car w/the(special!!!) allen and a 12mm wrench in the car just in case...don't lose half of a sat. like i did before...
...mateo :spin:
I think this is a good idea....

You never know, but what do you mean by special allen?
uchiha said:
I think he meant the allen wrench that came with the kit.

oh lol....

sorry i didn't install my kit....

Just gave the box to my Mech :) three days later I was boosting

I just lost a rib on my fourth belt!!!! :( :firemad: Now before you tell me its an installation error, this belt was installed by the Jackson Racing R&D department. So WTF!?!?! arg, I am so pissed right now!!! :firemad: :firemad: How come I have gone through four belts and some people are still on their first one???

I took a closer look at the belt in motion and it looks like it is out of allignment.... I think either the tensioner pully or the power steering pully is out of wack. I need to call Keith on monday and see what he says.... Unfortunatly I dont think they will be much help.... ARGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG :firemad: :firemad: :firemad: :firemad:

there is a slight alignment problem but with adjustment I have had 0 problems going on my 3rd month. I've also been to the track a couple of time still running strong. For those having problems that could be why...
alphaSSmale said:
what kind of allignment? what type of adjustment would need to be made? more detail please...
I will find out first thing tomorrow morning exactly what my mech did and I will post up. I know it was very minor but made a world of difference.

As far as I could tell, no the header did not rattle before the cat was put on. Right after the cat was put on, it started rattling. One night a few weeks ago when we were having all the rain here, I was driving up from Austin when the rattling started up and I thought something was dreadfully wrong with my car. It scared the shit of me, but I kept driving because I was on the middle of nowhere and the noise finally died down. Then the next night in the rain on the way to work, same noise. Then it started all the time to the point I was embarraced to come to a stop at an intersection (I just kept looking straight ahead not looking at the cars around me because I know I didn't want to see the driver next to me looking like WTF). Anyways, I know this getting long :dontknow: , but I had the cat taking off and no more rattling. The techs that took off the cat said it wasn't the inside honeycomb rattling, but one of the outer edges. Man did it make a racket :firemad: . Now, I'm trying to get a replacement one, but I will still have to pay again for another one to be put in :( .
this happened to me too, and only when it rained real hard. It was freaking me out and I too thoght that there was something seriously wrong with my car. My solution was ES MM and control arm bushings, the rattle went away, and I never had a problem again. I have the Carsound Cat, BTW.

so guys is it safe to say that I'd be happier with a cybernation's stage 1 and wont be having as many issues as some of you are having.
I like the SC beacuse it's easier and cheaper to install and tune. But with these issues I don't know if I should take the risk.
Claudio,

You have taken rides in my car, you have seen my dyno runs, and you have seen what this kit is capable of at the track first hand. All this with ZERO Problems, and i have one of the new kits (bought after march 1) I am still running on the first belt, and I run my car very hard.

I pretty much only use my car for track, weekend fun and meets. I have over 30 1/4 mile runs and again I have had zero problems. I am sorry that all you ppl are having belt issues and i wish you the best of luck in getting these problems fixed.

For those of you thinking that going the turbo route as an answer, and that you will have zero problems, are dreaming.

I'm not saying that the JRSC is the End All Be All, but lets be real....

I am 100% satisfied with my kit and I know others that are right there with me.

I know I will be happy with the kit when it is working right. We'll see what happens. I made an appointment today with a tech to look at it and tell me what is wrong. He is awesome also so we'll see what happens. Hopefully all will be working right so I can order the 3.2" pulley and start boosting my 9 PSI! Wish me luck everyone!

Jamie

Jamie, good luck bro

keep us posted on the 3,2" pulley. If all goes well, I would be very interested in this upgrade :)

RC 750cc injectors and K24 crank pulley. Install both of those, hook up the laptop, retune, datalog, tweak and hit the dyno. Not too worried at the moment. Got big plans come October time frame. Looking at a port/polish of the head, 3inch blower pulley, sleeved block, forged pistons/rod, upgraded valve springs/retainers, bored out TB and to top it all off 75 shot of nitrous.
lead the way sonny....

just make sure you get plenty of pics and vids....

just curious though, how much do you think a set-up like that will cost?

nm me about the injector question, I just read another thread and saw it. Man I don't wanna get bigger injectors already lol
I hear you TT....

i was going to buy the 650's soon, but I wonder if it just makes sense to wait and jump right to the 750's...

I plan on going the exact same route as Sonny but i need to come up with some serious scratch....

not to mention i'm real curious how Sonny's car will handle all the extra HP....

btw, these are the type of injectors I'm going to need correct?

Damn man, I forgot about you in my last post. To your question. Sleeving the block will be about $1200 with decking. Port/polish about $400, forged rods/pistons $800 or so, nitrous kit $500, TB about $400 or so. All in all, depending who I talk to and such, I am looking to spend about $3000 or so in October. Won't have my car for a few weeks because I have a shop that is looking to expand it's business into the K-Series engines instead of just Subaru engines. So with that said, the whole job may/may not cost more or less than what I have set. I told them I had a budget for all above for $2500. They said they would get back with me. We will see. I forsee over 350WHP with that setup on the stock fuel system (fuel rail, lines, in-tank pump). Of course the injectors are going to be upgraded, that is obvious.
thanks sonny, now I just need to save some serious cash....

Here's to another future VTECer :driving: :p
hey guys,

I'm having major problems now.... :(

After successfully running my car for 3 months (hard), I through my first belt. Well I contacted Kieth and he sent me the new pulleys, spacers and a new belt. The shop that did my install replaced everything, but when I picked up my car i got about 10 miles before the belt shredded completely. I mean not just a couple of ribs but completely off. WTF!!

I don't know how you guys put up with this but to say I'm frustrated is an understatement. It's back at the shop and my mech has no clue as to why this is happening. He insists that the pulleys are aligned and that's not the problem. He came up with a couple of possible reasons as to why this is happening:

1 The belts that JR are suppling are junk :dontknow:

or

2 for some reason the blades in the blower are siezing up causing the blower pulley to stop spinning. Which then would cause the belt to shred.

What do you guys think?

How could i run the car for 3 months with no problems, then have these kinds of problems now. Do you think it could be a problem with the blower?

any help is greatly appreciated!!!
See less See more
ok....

Do you think that the blower could have been damaged after thoughing a belt?

For those that had this problem, what needs to be done to correct this problem?

I see you are new to "belt shredding", if you got AIM, IM me, the SN is in the profile, posting back and forth would take forever so just IM me

Thanks bud....

I'll do that
Thanks for all your input. I'm going to call Kieth tomorrow and ask about the new tensioner and belt. I hope to have this fixed by the end of the week.
