JRSC belts & pulleys: please discuss it here

I know a lot of us JRSC guys having or had problems with our belts and pulleys and a lot of time we hijacking other threads because of it, so I thought it was a good idea to start up on a thread just about jrsc belts and pulleys. The thread is not only for current jrsc peeps but also for the newbies as well so they won't get us frustrated asking the same question over and over again.

I'll start off with one question, I read around and found a member who is using a goodyear 070775 belt which is 7 rib and 77.5 inches long. I tried a dayco belt that was 77.5 long and it wasn't even anywhere close to fitting onto the 3.4 pulley. The dayco 78.9 belt fit extremely well for the purpose. What I want to know is that anyone else tried the goodyear 77.5 long on a 3.4 pulley or is it because different makers make belt a little bit different in length.

yeah i dont see much of a discernible difference either... i guess its just the new material and different bolts... hopefully that will be enough!

i got the UPS shipping notification yesterday and it says its to be delivered today .... either way i´m gone in Europe right now until Oct.1st so... i´ll post pics when i get back .. it will be waiting for me.

then i´m going to install JR race header, the new tensioner and then hit the tuner again. 300hp here i come!

btw, what meets and stuff do you go to? I wanna see your setup on the base....
It looks like they are allen bolts now. That sucks I have a hard enough time trying to get the belt tight with a ratchet. Now I am gonna have to use a damn allen wrench?
I don't like the idea.

Jamie
Is the bracket on top(the tubular one) new as well. Mine is rusted like a son of a gun. Also, my tensioner has rust on it, so mine must be steel. Guess I'm lucky I got the first kit. I'm still on my original belt running 9 psi and 20,000 miles.
Does the kit come with a new one of this? I need one sooner or later from all the wear of changing belts.

What meet are you talking about? I haven't been to any meets in a long time. I'm waiting for a 3.4" pulley to get it tune by Doug.
That's what I'm asking about as well. Mine is all rusted and nasty, this one looks like new.

I don't think so, I just looked through the box with old stuff they just took out and I didn't see that part.
Just installed all the new parts. I'll keep you posted on my current set-up aswell. My mech took it for a quick spin and all was good. So I'm hoping this has corrected my problem.
what parts did it come with, was the one pictured included???
Why do you guys take it to the shop just to replace the tensioner? You can save alot of money by doing it yourself and it only takes 1/2 hour max

Damn I didn't get anything from UPS today. I want my 3.4" pulley...
I have the spacers in and it still didn't cure my belt slippage problem, wtf is going on???

Because I have a great Mech that does all this extra work for free :D

Not to mention, there was a lot more work done then just the tensioner. He also replaced the belt, all the pulleys and realigned everything. Then he double and triple checked the work to make sure the belt wasn't slipping.

Update on my car............ all is good  . The car was driven most of the night hitting boost a couple of times. The belt was checked this morning and there was some slippage but was shortly tightened. I'm also not sure if I like this new allen bolt design. Like Jamie said, its harder to get this thing tight with this set-up.

Same here, except mine's not free. I just wanted to make sure everything was aligned since I make two 200 mile trips each week and I don't want to get stuck in the middle of nowhere. :jigglemad

The spacers wont help the belt slippage, only the belt shredding issue. To cure belt slippage just tighten the tensioner a little.
soo was i the only one with no belt problems?? o well.. can't do anything about it know since i no longer have a 7 psi rsx.... damn i'm pissed!!!

I tighten the tensioner so tight, it won't turn anymore, is that tight enough? lol :D

Then you may need a new belt
