JRSC belts & pulleys: please discuss it here

I know a lot of us JRSC guys having or had problems with our belts and pulleys and a lot of time we hijacking other threads because of it, so I thought it was a good idea to start up on a thread just about jrsc belts and pulleys. The thread is not only for current jrsc peeps but also for the newbies as well so they won't get us frustrated asking the same question over and over again.

I'll start off with one question, I read around and found a member who is using a goodyear 070775 belt which is 7 rib and 77.5 inches long. I tried a dayco belt that was 77.5 long and it wasn't even anywhere close to fitting onto the 3.4 pulley. The dayco 78.9 belt fit extremely well for the purpose. What I want to know is that anyone else tried the goodyear 77.5 long on a 3.4 pulley or is it because different makers make belt a little bit different in length.

beside the two new tensioner hands, did u have to put in the other big piece too?

It is a pain in teh ass to tighten the belt now. The allen head bolts are so much harder to get a wrench down there to tighten it. It takes about 2 times as long to tighten it now.

Jamie

you know you don't have to use the allen bolt, go to an autoparts store and find a hex bolt with that same thread lol
I know I could do that, But I shouldn't have to go buy any more new parts for this kit. It should be at its best by now. I'll just stick to the way it is right now. Hopefully I won't have to mess with it anymore anyway.

I did, but the p/s pulley is still off. It still doesn't line up with the blower pulley. Anyway, I put in the spacer washers and they lined it up almost perfectly. I put a new belt on and I haven't thrown it yet. Last time I put in a new belt, I didn't have the spacers and I threw it right away. I think the alignment is way off without the spacers. I'll take some pics if you need it.

Keith told me that they are off about 50/1000 +/- 10 and that's why he's also send us which ever pulley we are using
just run it for a few days and it'll be clear up :)
for those that have the new tensioner unit, if you havent put them on, take a look at them. The two pulleys dont' align with each other

Which 2 pulleys? The tensioner and idler pulleys? Mine look fine. I had to do some spacing with the p/s pulley though. It was still way off. All looks good now.

this is what I meant
I noticed that also. I think it's because the SPACER for the smaller 2.0" idler pulley is over torqued into the longer adjuster scissor plate. The only part I used from the new tensioning system is the fixed scissor plate withe the reinforced enter hole. Everything else I reused from the older stuff. I hate the new hex bolts so I also reuse the older ones
damn it, so much for "redesign" the damn thing, wtf were they thinking???

has anyone spoken to Keith about this?
well the problem isn't big, you just need to use the spacer for the smaller pulley but I don't think that it's our job to do so, the tensioner should be come ready to be use, not to be modify again

What spacer are you talking about? the samller pulley doesn't bring one.
the smaller pulley doesn't have one, that's why it's off, I haven't had the setup on but if you want to use the new tensioner, u gotta compromise it, im sure the spacer will be needed.

OT: ocorzo do you ever head up to ft lauderdale or wpb or moroso? I really want to race against another JRSC RSX :)

I'm planning to but i really haven't had time off at work. Test and tune night is still Wednesdays and Fridays right?
yeah, we can always meet up and head up there.
I tried the new tensioner unit today and was hoping it'll be better than the first gen. JR put a steel insert in one of the bracket to make it stronger so we wont' strip it but guess what? When I turn the bolt, the stupid steel insert would also turn with the bolt, so much for the "new design. JR needs a better R&D team.
