one thing is if the belt is over tightend then it will come apart fast...the break in is very important...so that it is done stretching...so, install it, tighten it, dont start it, crank the motor by hand(i got this right from Oscar J. himself), i do it a least three times, then start the car, run 1 min. check it again...and then i run it 3-5 min @ idle, then drive around normal for a 1/2 hour or so...then again i check it again...remember a tight rubber band will break...and to loose of one will stretch! to get a idea as to how tight it should be check a buddies stock one for comparison or go pop the hood at the local dealer! oh and dont buy the bloody gates it is POS IMA.
just figure it will take a few hundred miles to seat correctly as well as stop the stretching...also the better belts as far as i can tell dont need as much of the tightening as the fricking gates.

i'm not tring to slam them...are you seeing wear on the edges of the belt...and how long have you been running that belt. i see it a little diff. i have had almost 10 months and 10K miles to form my view. i also find that the slotted poly- v is made much better(just holding in your hand you will notice the diff.)and doesnt slip as bloody much as the gates did..and really isnt showing the wear like the other as well!

I have used Gates belts each time I have changed my setup, I did rip one belt up when I first went to 7 psi (.4" pulley) but that was a 7 rib, I changed to 6 ribs and ran that for about 3 months and 3-4 k miles before going up a size to fit my K24 pulley and that is a 6 rib and that belt has been on for 3 months and afain 3-4k miles no waer on the edges, no slipping at all, just a light rub mark down the middle of the belt that happened during the tensioning, those guys who have fitted a K24 pulley know what it rubbed on. Since that belt slit on me I ALWAYS carry a spare but so far have not neede it. And yes 11 psi is a blast, the only problem is, you get use to it and start looking for more ;)

I almost wonder if he maybe didn't adjust the manifold and the supercharger by losing the bolts that hold it to the head... :dontknow:

I never thought of that, you could align the sc within a few mm I guess. The 7 rib working good so far but I will try to move the sc next time if the belt problem still persist. Good looking out

This is how it works on a belt drive on a motorcycle. Often time you have to space them to make sure the belt is right in line with the two pulleys. I can only assume that this might be the case with this setup as well. I don't have my car here to check, but I will be at the shop all day tomorrow and I will check and see if this could be a cause and potential fix for some people.

I was thinking that the gates belt just cant hold up. I guess I should try another belt. We dont really have a lot of options though.... Any place I can order the belts online?

I notice that on all the belts I lost the ribs blew off of the super charger side (the driver side of the belt). Now that I am missing a rib on half my belt I can see that the belt wants to pull in that direction. I am wondering if the powersteering pully is out of whack. I cant tell by eyeing it though...

will find out first thing tomorrow morning exactly what my mech did and I will post up. I know it was very minor but made a world of difference.
Thank you, every bit of advice helps

Yeah thats a good idea, I am going to call Keith tomorrow and see what he says but I get the feeling he just wants me to go away. They have sent me three replacement belts, I dont think they are going to want to send me another one. But of course the guy they recomended is the one who installed this belt....

All of my belts have gone on the supercharger, power steering pump side as well. I have held a straight edge up to the power steering and the supercharger and they are off. I think this only makes a major difference on my car when it is over 10psi but I am going to try and bring it back in line to see if that helps the 3" blower and K24 crank.

I finally have mine somewhat working. I have a 6 Rib 79.0" belt and it si still holding up. I actually did the tighteneing the way you are supposed to, and The belt did jump a little. This is when I noticed the crank pulley. If I look down to the crank pulley from the top of the motor it looks like it is wobbling. It is completely tight, but it looks a little out of wack. I noticed this because when I tightened the belt I looked at where the is on the idler pulley. It actually looked a little over to the driver side. I now think that it is the cause for the 6 rib belt jumping over the driver side on the P/S, Blower, and tensioner pulleys. After that it corrects itself back in line and the alternator, water pump and A/C are all still closest to the passenger side. Now I have the belt as tight as I think it should be. It hasn't jumped a rib yet and I drove it all day today. I will try the stock crank pulley and see if it looks a little out of wack also. If it does i am contacting the Acura store I got the pulley from and see if I can get another one if I send this one back to them. Hopefully this is where I losing boost also. I kinda doubt it, but just maybe my car will be fixed soon.

Is there anyway to correct this problem? I am only running 5 psi of boost and I have now lost four belts... I dont think jr is going to send me another one, I am going to try tomorrow though....

That is what I am trying to figure out, I am not sure what is causing the problem to be honest with you.

hey guys when you all tension the belt, do you loosen the 2 bolts on the scissor bracket and then tighten the tensioning screw; or just tighten the screw without loosening the 2 bolts?
You have to loosen them or else you will damage or completely strip out the bolts or the tensioners.

I just talked to Keith at JR and he restored my faith in that company! They are the best! They are sending me yet another belt and a new Power Steering pully! He says they have ran into this problem before and a new power steering pully fixed the issue. He said they had a bad batch of pullys at one time. Anyway hopefully when I install the new pully and belt I wont have anymore problems :)

He also thanked us for being patient as they work though the problems. If anyone has doubted JR, dont! I have had a ton of problems but they have always been good to me :) thnx JR!

In my case, the "re-designed" p/s pulley did not solve the belt shredding problem at all, as a matter of fact it made the matter worse.

I put on a brand new 7 rib belt (had to pay for it, Keith didn't offer to send me a new one) with the redesigned p/s pulley. let the engine idle for a minute and I notice the belt was shredding towards the driver's side. Tighten up the belt a little bit more and let it run for bout 30 seconds, the belt jumped right off.

so now i'm back to the original p/s pulley and a 6 rib belt.
