Hey guys,

I’m in the process of building an a2, it has a fully built bottom end (built by JBR engines) with arias 10:1 pistons on 86.5mm bore, Carrillo rods, and everything else brand new. My question is, will a stock a2 head be able to withstand 400-500whp as a daily? Or should I go ahead and add some super tech springs, retainers, and valves? I plan to set the limiter to around the 8400rpm range for reliability’s sake but I also want to beat on it from time to time. Before I bolt it together I’d like to hear somebody’s more experienced input. Thanks.

IMO I would build the head if you have the money and time. As far as need to in order to get what you want no. The stock head can flow enough and handle the 400 to 500 range. If you're going to push beyond that 600 to 700+ at some point then yeah upgrade the head. I'm doing a build right now and went ahead and send my head off to 4 Piston to get it done. I figured since the parts were approaching 15 years old and I was about to throw a lot at it then might as well. They did an amazing job.

Thanks for the info, I'm thinking I'll upgrade it just to be safe. Beautiful work done on that head!

I’m going for 650ish with my fully stock z1. Your head will be fine. Valve springs and retainers will let the rpms increase rapidly tho. The tranny would be the only thing I’d worry about. Built bottom end you can push 8-1k easy

I think that's the smart thing to do. Here is what I had done. Just a FYI i bought all my stuff from kseriesparts.com and then sent the head and parts to 4piston. The parts were cheaper at kseriesparts.com and Brian was able to help me get what I needed to to make the head flow best.

Kseriesparts.com

Supertech H1021D with titanium retainers and valve seats (https://www.kseriesparts.com/SUP-SPRK-H1020D.html)
Supertech Exhaust Valve Guides (https://www.kseriesparts.com/SUP-GDE-HK55-E-8.html)
Supertech Intake Valuve Guides (https://www.kseriesparts.com/SUP-GDE-HK55-I-8.html)
Supertech Intake Valve Seals (https://www.kseriesparts.com/SUP-VS-H5-5I.html)
Supertech Exhaust Valve Seals (https://www.kseriesparts.com/SUP-VS-H5-5E.html)
Lost Motion Spring (https://www.kseriesparts.com/HON-14820-PNA-003.html) <- Not required but might as well it's only $8
Ferrea Valve Keepers (https://www.kseriesparts.com/FER-K10034.html)

Then from 4piston I did

Ferrea Competition Plus Valves (Turbo)
Disassemble
Assemble
Hot Tank + Soda Blast

Let me know if you have any questions.

i agree with him for sure. If you have the money build the head also and do some tranny work as well since it’ll be a daily and plan to beat on it. The stock trannys will hold that much power for a little while but it will inevitably break. Or buy a spare. Make sure to have at least the oem type r lsd or the civic one.

I 10000000% agree tranny must be upgraded. I am doing a ppg 1-4 w/ a tsx 6th and mfactory lds with carbontech master rebuild kit. Let me know if you have any questions.

It looked even better once i put a few clear coats on
