K24 Swap whining noise ???

ok, heres the deal. I had a k24/k20 swap put in about three weeks ago. The car was running great untill last week. There is a strange whining noise coming from the motor and around the same time I got a CEL. Also the vtec stopped working. The shop reajusted my tps and the vtec started working again and got rid of the CEL,but the whining is still there. They think it might be the oil pump. when I had the swap done i had a k20 oil pump put in so I dont see how that could be the problem. If anyone can help me it would be greatly appreciated. thanks

hidden s/c :shady:
dont the k-series engines whine normally?
dont the k-series engines whine normally?
AFAIK it is the VTC that makes the slight whine.

Hard to tell if that is what the op refers to or not :dontknow:
maybe the motor is just warn-in more now and just has a louder whine, it is puting out 255 whp. But I think its something else
It's coming from inside of the motor or somewhere outside? What accessory belt are you running, the k20 or k24?
i had the same problem with my k24 swap. i could hear and feal it in the oil pan.then after about 4000 miles it whent away.the only thing i think it could have been is i used the k20 oil pump but the k24 tentioner and triangel shaped giude that bolt to the block and it was a little longer than the k20 giude. i think over time the giude wore down becuase it is plastic and the noise went away. i just  pray every day i dont have little pieces of plastic eating away at my rod and mian bearings. i now have 7000 miles on it and have raced and run the the shit out of it and had it tuned by jeff evans and he ran the shit out it so i think every thing is:thumbsup:
whine could be so many things. does it whine only when driving? or constantly, even at idle?

off the top of my head, whines could come from:
-kinked PS line
-tranny
-s/c :)p)

GL with finding your problem!
Thanks for the info guys. It seems to whine both at idle and during acceleration. So the oil pump does sound like the best reason for the noise. I'll keep ya posted if I find anything.
since vtec stopped working, it must've been oil related. when u're low on oil (vtec fluid), vtec does not operate to prevent damage.
Did they tap the port to replace the oil pump? There is one squirting "thingy"(technical term) that needs to be removed and plugged....

I am praying for your motor. You were supposed to use the k20 chain man
what oil chain guides are you using? k24 or k20? I think when using the k20 guides you'll get a whining noise since it'll apply too much tension.

i did not say i used the k24 chain just the k24 giuds. i think it would be imposible to use k24 chain with k20 oil pump even though it is only one link shorter it will never fit.
Its the guides. I just took apart my motor after it putting it together less than a week ago. The high pitched whine was there from teh begining. The k24 tensioner for the oil pump chain looked a bit ragged. The guide looked ok, but I changed them both to k20 pieces.

You need to use the k20 guide and tensioner.

I suspect some people get away with it if the guide/tensioner on the k24 has more milage/wear on it. Mine had under 10k, so it was still fresh and had fun getting torn up by my chain.
Thanks for the heads up man. Good find. I think mine must have worn in because the sound isnt that bad now. The motor had about 30,000 on in it when I got it.
I have the slight whining noise also. it's not really loud, only at light acceeration. Under WOT I cant hear it.

I have the 06 tsx Short block and head...Th noise is annoying but doesnt seem to be affecting performance or anything.
i have a wining sound too. its pissing me off

I'm getting used to it..Just turn up the music or roll down the windows and listen to the engine/exhaust.

I hate redlining at 7600 the most:mad:...It feels like it's wanting to keep going but dont want to risk anything.

Maybe I should tune for my nitrous now to get my smile going again:rotfl:..Say 100 shot?
