lifter tick

Well today I discovered that the ticking noise (that increases with engine speed) i've been having at idle and while cruising are my lifters. They are pretty noticeable and I need some suggestions as to what I can do to remedy the problem.

I'm thinking about taking the car into Acura to have them take a look at it, but are there any cheaper alternatives?

Is it an expensive fix?

Why exactly would I just start developing lifter tick? I did have a JRSC on the car previously and the car was throwing a lean code w/ powercard because of a vacuum leak, but all that has been removed, and the tick is still there.

Comments/Opinions welcome.

you sure its not your injectors?? injectors on our cars are very loud and thus makes the ticking noise, my car makes the ticking noise and increases as the rpms rise as well, perfectly normal.
I'm sure it's not the injectors. Every time i mention this problem the first thing anyone says is "injectors". No, it's not the injectors the ticking is coming from the head and you can hear it on top of the injector tick.
if anything you could get a valve adjustment done. how many miles on the car??
if you want those tech guys will take the header out for you cheap they have all the air tools and the lifts so you be in out fast. then just take it up for warranty if anything. that woudl prob make things easier. but yea i heard the noise myself you can hear it if you stick your head by the wheelwell its a softer tick then the injectors.

hey man,
never got a chance to thank you for helping me out, i really appreciate it.
and yeah, that would be awesome if I could come in sometime tomorrow to get the RH and ESMM's removed and replaced with the stock dp+header. I'll pm you with the details.

It's not lifter tick, because OHC motors don't use lifters. I would start by re-lashing your valves. Good luck.
no? I brought the car to a honda tech and he listened and said it was lifter tick.. i guess a valve relash is in order?
switch to 5w20
^^^ knows what hes talking about.

Try changing your oil. My old DSM had lifter tick when I used certain oil weights and brands.

no, the k20 doesn't use hydraulic lifters, which can get clogged and collapse, causing lifter tick if your oil is dirty. there are plenty of ohc engines that use lifters, just not necessarily honda/acuras
what is the recommended interval for valve adjustments anyways? im coming up on 40k

I believe Honda says its 105 or 110k

Edit: Found a little info & testing here: http://www.artsautomotive.com/RSXValveAdjust.htm
Had to adjust mine at 40k. The acura manual says 110k or when they get noisy.
Did you try just checking your oil level? When I had my RSX it would tend to eat a little oil between oil changes. I don't ever remember a ticking noise but I know in my impreza it if gets even a little low it starts making that noise.
Valve Adjustment for sure. I had to do one myself a month ago and I have 50k on my motor. It's very very easy. Heres an east way to check.

Take the valve cover off and start wiggling the rockers that are off the cams lobes. If one is off by a bit, you will notice. You're going to have to turn the passenger side wheel so the cams will turn and release the rockers. Like I said, just play with them and if one is out of line you will notice. If its out of spec stick a feeler in there and snug it up to the feeler. always adjust the valves when the motor is cold! your valve clearences will be written on your hood.
i was having the same issue about 5k ago..i think it might actually be the oil..i changed mine and i havn't heard it ...and i change my oil every 1500 miles or so.
