Motor mounts or inserts?

10573 Views 40 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  adotwu86
So I'm pretty much on the verge of putting a header on my car. I know I need to have motor mounts, but can I just put inserts in the mean while? They're way cheaper then mounts and I'll only have them on for about a month or two at most while I get the mounts. Good idea or bad? Any particular brand in mind for insert?

Just save for the motor mounts if it's going to be a few months. If you want the inserts get the Energy Suspension.

I'm thinking it'd only be a a month. The most is 2 and that's just worst case scenario. I really doubt two months though. It's just i want to install the header asap but have a couple bills I need to pay first. I'll look into those thanks

Funny, my thought process was the same. I installed inserts thinking like you that after several months later I would upgrade the mounts. Well two years later the inserts are still performing well supporting a 365 whp aftercooled supercharged engine running on E85. I have no issues with cracks in the header, or little to none with wheel hop as you can see from the short video. I’m glad I spent my money in other hp mods.

Wow that's great to hear! What inserts do you have?

^ Ran these inserts on my DC2 turbo with new OEM mounts. Night and day difference on launches, wheel hop was 90% gone. No more busted axles.

A Koni/GC suspension setup removed all remaining wheel hop.

I had replaced the OEM rear mount with a poly mount, but had to remove it because I couldn't stand the dash vibrating in my DD.
+1 for just getting the ESMM inserts and calling it a day.
I got the inserts!thanks

A little bit of spray silicone lubricant will help with the installation.
Well I got the inserts already being shipped out to me.. but to day I checked my car (should've done it before) and noticed 2 mounts broken :/ .... so I'm guessing just get some actual motor mounts now right? Or just replace them with oem and put the inserts?
Will have to put buying my RH on hold for now I guess

Btw so the motor mounts that I buy off kseries come with transmission mounts or are they a separate buy. Cause I heard my friend talking about a transmission mount. Sorry if it's a dumb question I'm new to this lol.

you gotta buy it separate. Usually the kits come with driver, passenger, and rear mounts.

Not necessarily. If they are torn you might be still be alright. Look how the insert works. The inserts fills in the motor mount’s cavities - wall to wall material with no voids. As you can see all sides of the oem mount and the insert are enclosed in steel and cannot shift any direction. You might be doubting me right about now but my front mount was torn as well - and it still works with the help of the insert. Be careful if you buy aftermarket motor mounts because most of them are too hard and will transfer a lot of engine vibration into the cabin. Heads up, the passenger side motor mount is challenging for some motor mount manufactures to make correctly - again transferring to much vibration. Vibratechnics makes a good product and a set of mounts will cost you around $450 - not cheap. In my opinion aftermarket motor mounts are over advertized. Its interesting how much abuse OEM front and rear mounts can take with the help of inserts and at the same time minimize the amount of vibration from being transferred into the cabin. By the way, my orginal OEM motor mounts are still performing well after 15 years and 187,000 miles of wear and tear.

Ok see this is the diagram that came for the ESMM inserts. The problem is that the mounts that have "X" on them are the mounts that can't be used with the inserts...Those are the ones that are broken on mine... ..So I pretty much can't even use the inserts for the mounts I need to get replaced. What's my best option? Getting those two oem mounts brand new for about $170 and adding the inserts to the other 2 mounts that can be used with them or just buying aftermarket mounts?

So you're saying to pretty much just go with the oem mounts and add the inserts to the other ones? I don't need to add anything to the mounts without inserts for when I get a header?

Get the mounts and use the inserts on those too. You'll need the inserts for the header.

But I can't use the inserts on the mounts that need to be replaced. You're saying use the inserts on the other two mounts and replace the broken mounts with the oem mounts? That won't mess my header up?

You're correct, the driver and passenger side motor mounts do not use inserts, Either buy new oem units or replace them with some Vibratechnics units. Remember I don’t recommend using the majority of the aftermarket passenger side units. In my experience because the front and rear mounts do most of the work you can easily get by using the oem side mounts. Don’t be surprised if one of your front or rear mounts isn't damaged. I didn’t know that my front one was torn until I installed the insert.
