Motor mounts or inserts?

10569 Views 40 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  adotwu86
So I'm pretty much on the verge of putting a header on my car. I know I need to have motor mounts, but can I just put inserts in the mean while? They're way cheaper then mounts and I'll only have them on for about a month or two at most while I get the mounts. Good idea or bad? Any particular brand in mind for insert?

Just save for the motor mounts if it's going to be a few months. If you want the inserts get the Energy Suspension.

I'm thinking it'd only be a a month. The most is 2 and that's just worst case scenario. I really doubt two months though. It's just i want to install the header asap but have a couple bills I need to pay first. I'll look into those thanks

Funny, my thought process was the same. I installed inserts thinking like you that after several months later I would upgrade the mounts. Well two years later the inserts are still performing well supporting a 365 whp aftercooled supercharged engine running on E85. I have no issues with cracks in the header, or little to none with wheel hop as you can see from the short video. I’m glad I spent my money in other hp mods.

Wow that's great to hear! What inserts do you have?

Well I got the inserts already being shipped out to me.. but to day I checked my car (should've done it before) and noticed 2 mounts broken :/ .... so I'm guessing just get some actual motor mounts now right? Or just replace them with oem and put the inserts?
Will have to put buying my RH on hold for now I guess

Btw so the motor mounts that I buy off kseries come with transmission mounts or are they a separate buy. Cause I heard my friend talking about a transmission mount. Sorry if it's a dumb question I'm new to this lol.

Ok see this is the diagram that came for the ESMM inserts. The problem is that the mounts that have "X" on them are the mounts that can't be used with the inserts...Those are the ones that are broken on mine... ..So I pretty much can't even use the inserts for the mounts I need to get replaced. What's my best option? Getting those two oem mounts brand new for about $170 and adding the inserts to the other 2 mounts that can be used with them or just buying aftermarket mounts?

So you're saying to pretty much just go with the oem mounts and add the inserts to the other ones? I don't need to add anything to the mounts without inserts for when I get a header?

Get the mounts and use the inserts on those too. You'll need the inserts for the header.

But I can't use the inserts on the mounts that need to be replaced. You're saying use the inserts on the other two mounts and replace the broken mounts with the oem mounts? That won't mess my header up?

You're correct, the driver and passenger side motor mounts do not use inserts, Either buy new oem units or replace them with some Vibratechnics units. Remember I don’t recommend using the majority of the aftermarket passenger side units. In my experience because the front and rear mounts do most of the work you can easily get by using the oem side mounts. Don’t be surprised if one of your front or rear mounts isn't damaged. I didn’t know that my front one was torn until I installed the insert.

Can you give me link to the vibratechnics? Want to take a look at them

Also how bad is it to be with those two broken mounts? I think it'll be about two weeks before I can't install the new ones and am thinking of barely driving my car for now.. problem it's my dd that I take to work so I'm trying to drive t really soft lol

EDIT: idk why this posted a second time when I edited the first post

Ok so I'm just going to put the inserts on the front and rear and get side mounts. I thought about it and what if I get one aftermarket mount and one oem mount? Which side would benefit more from having a stronger aftermarket mount, the passanger or the driver side mount? Thanks

Ok so I had my mind set on just using the oem mounts and running the essm inserts. But I ran into a offer of 70a hasports with less then 10k miles for 240. Is that a good or bad deal? How long do they usually last? My car is my daily.
Thinking I might as well just buy them since they're not retail price and would give me piece of mind that they won't break or anything no matter how hard I drive my car lol. Also I've read reviews that the essm inserts have maybe rougher vibration or about the same as a 70a mount so might as well just get the real thing right?

Update. I installed my passenger and driver side oem mounts and all I can say is wooooow wtf my car feels different by a lot to be honest. It feels like it drives smoother, turns smoother, it's not as jumpy as it used to be when I decelerated by letting the throttle go or accelerated, my gear shifts actually feel different sort. What's crazy is after I installed the 2 mounts I found out my front and rear mounts were also broken... I was driving around with all 4 mounts broken wtf!!! I might just get some hasports now since I don't want to break my mounts again seeing how different my car feels now. I feel like my oem mounts might break again if I WOT(they probably won't but I lm just scared to do it now lol). I can't wait to install the front and rear mounts. The car is going to feel even better!

Also idk why but the times I've driven the car since I got the two new mounts (only twice) my 3rd gear has been popping out.. for example I use to just navigate the shifter to 3rd with a nice light touch but now I feel like it have to be a bit more rough with it or it might pop out. I really hope installing the front and rear mounts fix this.

Anyone selling any rear or front aftermarket mounts? Let me know

as soon as you get those front and rears replaced it will make it shift a lot better. Your front to back is the most important ... and when i put the esmm inserts in i could tell a world of difference going into 2nd and 3rd. I had broken front and back mounts and used the inserts ... so so much better

Thanks for the help! Did your hood rattle when you broke your front mount? Mine seems to rattle now unless I open it and close it but it comes back when I start driving. Sounds like it's my motor to anyone else but I'm 99% it's my hood.

Thanks!
I just remembered to ask you guys about my audio. I know it's not related to this topic but I had to take my battery out to get to my tranny mount.. now my speakers don't want to work. I've checked interior fuse #15 and it looked good. Checked my head unit fuse and it looked good. Even messed with my head unit settings and still nothing. Subs work and my aftermarket amp is powered on too. Last guess I'm thinking is my bose amp fuse went out? I hope not though since I'd have to take of the seat to check it out right?
I've read on a different topic someone said that the speakers and amp have a different fuse? I have the diagram to the fuses and that's the only one I see that's audio related.
Before I took out the battery everything was working perfectly fine.

im pretty sure that there is some type of ground wire that is attached to one of the side mounts ... id made sure that is still grounded. sounds like a ground issue

The tranny mount? will I have to take anything out or can I just dig my hand through there lol

I installed oem mounts with inserts. The car feels solid...like stronger or something when I turn it on. When I first turned it on I somewhat felt the vibration. Maybe like 5 minutes later after backing it out the garage I really noticed the vibrations. I thought to myself now I see why people keep bitching about the vibrations cause it felt weird since I wasn't use to it lol. It wasn't bad though. It literally feels like a low setting vibrating massage chair. Even the steering wheel shakes. It doesn't shake all the time like that though. If you're almost stalling it shakes pretty noticeable, but driving it feels normal. Maybe the car sounds louder inside now since it vibrates? Idk. I had a full soda in the cup holder and noticed that the vibration was making it bubble very little from the top where you put the straw in. So just try to imagine how that is if you've never had inserts or solid mounts.
Honestly though after driving it for a while it's normal. I can see why people bitch about the vibrations with the inserts but at the same time it's not even close to being as bad as people over exaggerate it to make it out to be. If you're thinking about doing inserts, DO IT! I've never had solid metal mounts so I wouldn't know how to compare this to them.
