not understanding FD!

I have done some searching, and have actually gotten more confused. When you buy the ITR final drive, that one gear that it shows changes the gearing for 1-6? I got interested because I read a thread about the ITR FD and TSX 6th gear. how does that combo work. thanks for the help

i have wonders bout all this myself i also heard of using the crv fd ahhh soo confusing!!!
The FD is simply a little cirlce with edged teeth around it. The measurements determine how fast you will accelerate but will also determine your top speed. The closer the gear, the faster you accelerate but the lower you speeds will be at the end of each gear. Then there is a final drive which determines the length of the ratio's between gears. So the ITR FD is a close ratio gearing but the TSX 6th gear is a long indiviual gear. Each gear has it's own plate and the TSX 6th gear fits in with the ITR FD.
thanks! so how do you guys think the tsx/itr setup will work?
To answer your question, the Final Drive is one circular gear that interfaces between the transmission gears and the output shaft. Whatever gear you have selected (1-6), you are still additionally going through the FD before hitting the wheels.

So, getting a shorter FD (like the ITR or the CR-V) will effectively shorten gearing for all forward gears. The combination of a TSX 6th gear comes in because the TSX 6th is taller than the RSX, so you can complement the shorter gearing of your new FD in 6th only (therefore still get good gas mileage and non-mind-numbing engine noise when criuising on the freeway).

Make sense?

_FAQ_
I just read a post in the NA forum about a guy who did this and he said his rpms at 80 mph are still at 3500. I always thought that with a itr fd and tsx 6th gear rpms would be closer to 3000 at 80 mph.? I have these parts and lsd waiting for install but if my rpms in 6th gear will remain the same then i might not even do it.

The ITR FD will help your acceleration. However, if you don't get the TSX 6th gear to go withit, you will get poor gas mileage on the highway as well as alot of engine noise. This combo is better than stock. Simply the first 5 gears are shorter and faster, but the last one will allow you to retain your old 6th gear pretty much. It is margianlly lower as well. 100-200 RPMs lower than stock.
Who, sells this combination the ITR with TSX 6th? How much??

you have to get them seperatly. You can get the 6th gear from acuraautomotiveparts.com or it might be .com. If you wait about a month I might put my itr FD, 6th gear, and itr LSD for sale, and it will be pretty cheap.
I found this Part # 211203 @ acuraautomotiveparts.org, and was curious if this is all you need...Also, is it pretty easy to replace the 6th gear if you already replacing the FD?? I am having a FD put in my car for free, and was wondering if there is much "additional" labor involved to swap the 6th gear out??

Zach

It's under TSX/6SMT/mainshaft...that's where I found it.
Bump for some answers. :D

the fd and 6th gear are brand new, and the lsd is slightly used. the lsd i bought from icb motorsports. they get them from japan. i was told it had less than 1000 miles on it. I should know in about a month weather i'll be doing this or not. PM if you have any other questions.
Toooooo many threads on the same topic.

Anyway, just about everything you could possibly want to know is here:
