I have a DCRH with a cat welded on in place of the area after the merge:

Oh, sorry, wrong cat:

I did this in 2004 and can no longer answer any specific questions about what cat that is or how much it cost (it was just part of a complete end-to-end custom exhaust and was priced in total).

I can say that I have used it all this time (2012 at the time of this post) without any problems. The car passed the dyno sniffer test when we still had that here; now it passes the OBDII plug-in test.

Here are some links to related info and threads:

SSR Header + Cat

See those threads, and the web pages they link to, for more info on hi-flow cats (including some old flow testing data) and using them with various race headers.

OP thanks for condensing this info, I had lost track of it at some point and its a project I'm probably going to take on one of these days.

so its not technically a "race header" anymore.. hmm
It depends on how you define "race".

I'm running auto-x in a class that requires a cat. Currently, i'm running the itr header but this is a decent option.

The primaries are still going to be significantly longer than the stock-style setup. Longer primaries = more flow. Yes the cat will restrict it a bit but it will be an improvement regardless.

 Yup! That's why I made this thread. Tired of having to search to find those old threads every time someone posts about header/cat. Now I can just point to the link in my SIG and get back to surfing car porn ;)

Same as the old one, but double the price. How do they think that's worth $925

I really like your idea how sport and eco compatible.
I understand people want power and speed without considering the poisonous gas. In Oregon, emission is necessary by the law. Personaly it is indivisual responsibility to the environment.

I was looking to do the same, but was wondering if the stock type s CAT would be a good fitment for the dcrh, as far as diameter and length. Also, does anyone think it would be worth it to buy a new CAT or re use the old one

youd have to do some SERIOUS cutting and fabricating to get the cat to work. i personally wouldnt use it. you can buy an aftermarket cat which will work much better than the stock one for your application.

Yea not trying to dig my self to deep with that. I don't mean to bring this up but is there actually a significant/ notice difference between hf and stock flowing cat......because there is definately a noticeable difference in price

What I did when the local police started setting up mobile sniffer checks was to remove the connector pipe from the Jackson Racin RH. I purchased a Magnaflow hi flow cat, had a new connector pipe fabricated and had the cat welded into the pipe. That was about 3.5 years ago and it has worked perfectly including recently passing a registration required SMOG check.

Was that a short header? Are you talking about the pipe after the fire wall? If you happen to have any pictures id be interested to see

The Jackson Racing RH is not quite a long tube header, but flows far better than a shorty.

It was originally designed to work with the supercharger that Jackson Racing designed many years ago. There is a short section of pipe at the end that can be removed to install a cat.
Although these pictures are posted by another member; they will give you an idea how the cat is installed.
I used a Magnaflow hi flow instead.

thanks for the pictures. That seems like a feesable option. Do they still make this header? I can do some more looking but are the gains a lot different then a full rh? That's interesting

im assuming the term "race header" implies a catless header

It should. As long as you don't modify the original length our angle of the pipe i'm assuming. I couldn't find a new one any where though maybe i'm not looking in the right place
