Remove Tar Stains from Seats

There's this tar looking substance on my new Brides. Anyone have any hints / tips / tricks to remove any sort of dark substance from red cloth? I need some help. :(

I would try simple green or a steam cleaner. The only thing that you should be careful about is whether the red will run or not when you clean it.
