Roadtrip suggestions

1028 Views 31 Replies 18 Participants Last post by  Axix23
In june I'm going on a roadtrip from Cincinnati OH to Denver CO (about 1,200 miles). I've got a '02 stock type-s with 50k on it. Any suggestions for the trip. I was thinking I might buy a leather bra to try to keep the rock and bug scuffs down.

I have a local customer with the clear bra on his S2K. Swear to god: If you weren't looking for it, you'd never know it was there. I should have started with one on my car. His tip was to be sure to clay bar before you apply it. Good luck.
change ur oil before u go, or when u get to ur destination
Yeah, I was going to change the oil the day before I leave and probably again before coming back if it looks dark.

I'm not sure if I want to put on the 3m clear bra because of the adhesive, I'd like to be able to take it off. Plus, the car already has quite a few small chips from the previous owner that I won't have fixed until later this year.

The front of my car looks like the 15 year old captain of the high school chess club.
a good way to avoid rock chips on a road trip are not to tail gate truck drivers when they do the "pass eachother for 10min stunt" you'll also waste more gas speeding up and down waiting for a hole to pass. I find they also pass eachother sooner when they see you aren't getting pissed about it. then when you have the pass you can make up the time easy.

also, I always eat sunflower seeds on road trips, gives me something to do besides looking for cops on the road and changing cd's

I've driven from Ft. Worth, TX to Northern VA 9 times one way (1400miles) so I'm all over the road trip details.
Carry a couple extra qt of oil and check often, topping up when needed.

You may not see much if any oil consumption on a DD basis but all those straight HW miles and I'd be keepin my eye on the oil level.

just my .02

OR... Better advice....

Rent a car. :p
I drove from chicago to miami. Bring enjoyable cd's to listen too. I ate lots of ritz crackers and drank a red bull at every pit stop for gas, helped keep me awake and less bathroom breaks. If you get tired, pull over at a stop and stretch out, take a good 20 minute break standing up/walking around. Getting tired while driving that long is very bad. Other than that i cant think of any other suggestions.

that is a SWEET RSX-MEX in your avy!
good luck on that drive man, i just went to denver but from indianapolis a couple weeks ago, but it still was a long ass drive. i did it in my friends lame 96 subaru forester with 140,000 miles!! we did encounted about 6 or 7 good noticeable rick chips in the windshield, so from what i have experience driving from indy to denver, and owning a type s, if i were to drive my S out there, i would definitley think about some sort of bra what ever u like the most...its a very boring drive... u goin to the slopes while u are out there?? the snow was excellent when i boarded out there at keystone.
