The shop you went to is dumb. A type s tps would require you to re-pin the connector from your harness. You need Kpro and a competent shop that knows how to tune.
I am in Cali and I passed smog with my k24 rsx with kpro. As long as it looks stock and no engine lights, it's good. I can't speak for everyone though since every smog techs are different in experience levels.Also forgot to mention that with KPRO that you might not pass emissions since the readiness codes will keep getting erased at the smog shop when they turn off your ignition for testing.
At least that is what happened to me ( and some others on this forum ).
