I have a 2005 RSX TypeS. I want to run k20 head k24 (TSX) block. But running into the question how would I even get it to pass smog. What do you do about the ECU. My stock RSX ECU would probably have issues running the engine for the emissions test. Does anyone have any insight on how to go about this?

Your stock ECU will have issues running it in general, not just for smog. Kpro or Ktuner is your only option to run it, and people have passed smog testing with both. You just have to hope the tech doesn't notice it's a swap, or he'll send your ass to the state ref to get BAR'd.

OR, find a dirty smog guy. Just pay him a little extra and get him a case of beer lol.

Def going to need a modified ECU for that setup, and as Mfarmakas17 says the whole key is getting the tech to not know its a swap. You can (by my research), get a swap accepted through the BAR, but you would have to have a whole engine from another car and a kpo that has been tuned for a stock tune and locked (with proof). I think your best bet it to make it look as stock as possible, and try to get it smogged or find a guy.

I'm actually fairly certain that the Kpro won't pass a BAR inspection. The last time I took a look at the guidelines, the ECU from the donor vehicle was required as well. At least, that's the case for California. However, I don't see that being stated in the revision that's currently available so maybe that's been changed.

I read somewhere (dont remember where), that they would accept other ECU's that could be locked to prevent tampering aftwards. Seems odd to me, because i'd just ask the tuner to unlock it later.

I really hope that is the case. It would make a swap so much more simple. If you ever come across the info again, I'd like to take a peek at it.

Post #22, Mind you I dont believe its docterin, i just read it.
Well the post is accurate, but it's referring specifically to the SC+tune. Comptech actually filed for and received a CARB EO number on it. I'm sure it would be possible to get a EO for a tune, but I'm doubtful that the tuner themselves would bother with the hassle.
