Hello, I am trying to match the stance of the vintage Spoon DC5 that was run in the Super Taikyu series in Japan. This particular set up is 17x8 with 245/40r17 Advan RS Wheels. I am looking at a performance suspension for occasional track use but do not want to rub on the streets. What kind of problems would be presented with 245/40r17 and what offset would be recommended? Do fenders have to be rolled with this size? 17x8 Advan RZ2 (45mm offset)wheels are offered at Vivid Racing. Also, what kind of springs/coilovers would be recommended to be stiff enough to not rub on the streets yet not beat the living daylights out of you on the street? thanks for the input !

ello, I am

No one buys springs and coilovers. It's either coilovers, or springs with koni yellow struts. Do some research.

Thanks I understand all of that but what kind of drop do you think would achieve the Spoon DC5 look? 2", 1.5" , the car looks pretty slammed but it has very stiff rates so that it will not rub. I am just looking at the holy grail of fits to look good but also not be too low and rub on speed bumps plus everything in the road. thanks
That looks like a single finger gap up front, my best guess would be around 1.5". The rear looks like it’s got more of a drop. Another thing to take into consideration is the alignment though. Increased negative camber will close that wheel gap. It’s been so long since I read about their super taikyu car, but I want to say Spoon ran either factory ITR struts or custom struts from Showa with the progressive springs they used to make.
So there’s a video on YouTube comparing the dc5 and fd2 that spoon built and you get a peak at the integra’s suspension. This looks like an adjustable coil over, so I’m leaning towards the custom Showa suspension, but clearly not spoon springs. They also mentioned that the tire size is 215/45, not 245/40

Interesting, the article mentioned 245/40's but the video is the true source so we'll go with that. 215/45R17 it is. In that case, the 17x7.5's might be the better fit? I've watched these videos dozens of times and they get better every time. I think that these old school Advan wheels are super tight and you don't see them around too much, but they aren't cheap !!!
