Got the custom v-band done. Machinist didn't have time to get fancy, had to do most of the shaping myself.
The premise behind the shape is to spread the load and give more surface area of weld in different directions avoiding and easy avenue for cracking/breakage. Of course, it put's more stress on the weld farther back, but doing the exhaust in mostly aluminum should alleviate some stress.
The reason for concern is the thickness of the tubing used to fab the header.
It's .049"(18gauge). It was designed for me by Casey Heerman, and fabbed up by SSR.

This means I can go ahead and build the exhaust for crusing. It will be 3" for a short ways then transition into 2.5" for clearance etc about 1/2 way.

The hangers are extremely labour intensive...

Have to boogey not to get "sugarring" inside the thin clamp, but got 'er.

One side mounted and welded....

Here is the fit and finish with the Titanium tip...

Sound clips by friday for sure.

Here is a 240 DP I modded to take my custom v-bands.
I have the flanges machined for me with a male-female fitment so flow is as good as no connection, and it's idiot proof. He also makes it thinner where it welds so I can use less heat overall.

your friends machine work looks really nice. stainless, mmar, and inconal seems to be to be harder to work with in all aspecs. i take it that he spins those in a lathe. vbands are so much nicer to work with than 2 or 3 bolt flanges.

Yep, he does them up in a lathe for me, about 30 at a time.
I agree, much better, no bolts to rust, etc.
I use only v-band now.
These ones make my life so easy. Just like the 02 bungs I get made.
Just a little thought into it, and life is great.
