a supercharger is a blower that is belt driven(usually by your crank pulley) and turbo charger is driven by your exhaust. <IMG SRC="cwm1.gif" border="0">

They both have their advantages and disadvantages such as...

supercharger do rob power to gain power. but hey, increased power output from an engine that is supercharged (even lightly), is far and away superior to the same engine without it! also, from a supercharger you get power off the line, and dont have to worry about turbo lag. some superchargers (example. roots type) require little maintainence.

a turbocharger, you can get hecka power from it, but, you sometimes have turbo lag. downsides for the turbo is that it creates high temps, you need to be careful and make sure the turbo gets the lubrication, and the turbo's pressure control(spikes) at times and so on. but a well built turbo kit will give you no problem at all. ;)

Don't forget that another disadvantage to a turbo/sc is that they increase the pressure in the engine (which is the point of putting them on in the first place). This inadvertently shortens the life of an engine. In addition, if the hp gains are significant (+30 hp) you may need an aftermarket clutch to get that power to the ground.

My $0.02, best regards,
