The following chart is for 02-04 RSX-S and 05-06 RSX-S with standard final drive. It shows the effects that tire size has on speed and shift points for each gear. The first column is for stock tires. Shift point is 8300 rpm. I put this together to see what effect different size drag tires would have on shift points and speed.

Ok, this is good info... question though. The Final Drive kits you can buy..... what do those do? I do a lot of highway driving and was looking at something to get me better gas mileage... so would a 5.?? ratio be better for me then a 4.?? ratio?

The higher the ratio, the higher the top speed? Or lower top speed?


I know like on a four-wheeler when you increase the rear teeth on the sprocket you gain acceleration and lose top speed, but if you decrease the teeth you lose acceleration and gain top speed, and the opposite for the front....

the lower the final drive (like a 4.0) the higher the top speed. The higher the final driver (like a 5.0) the lower the top speed. The lower the final drive it makes the gears longer. So if you are looking for improved gas mileage then you need to go with a lower final drive. In an RSX you can change to a 4.0 final drive and a TSX 6th gear you can go 80mph without breaking 3000rpm. I am not sure if that is good or bad but we are going to test it in a few.

Chris, the lowest gear ratio is now found in the '08+ Accord 5th gear. Even lower than the TSX/Si 6th gear.
0.647 compared to 0.659
