Tuning The Afc..

730 Views 19 Replies 12 Participants Last post by  FastFrontier17
im installing a custom turbo kit and imma install it with an AFC until i get the money for k-pro and a turbo upgrade! right now i am going to run a stock motor on just 550cc injectors, 255ph pump. i'm going to settle for 10-12 psi and i'm going to tune with an AFC. i keep hearing that i need a blackmagic box to control timing..is that really necessary?

in my opinion you should save for k-pro before you do anything at all... why risk blowing your motor and spending 3k+ on a new engine when you could spend 1300 on k-pro and the harness

yea i know..it's that right now only had $1500 from an accident that i had to spend on the wastgate...injectors..fuel pump...50 trim etc..and i already had an afc..not the neo..the older one (s-afc) and that's what im going to tune on for now till i find a job to save up... what can i control timing with? is it really necessary to control timing as of with what i got?
yes get blackmagic, it is good for the car. :ugh: :shakehead
do it right from the start... Wait and save up for kpro....
Yes you need to control timing or kablammo goes your engine

agreed
in the mean time where can i get the blackmagic box?
Wal-mart :)
DUDE...listen to us FUCK that BLACK MAGIC BOX and stop being so hard headed... before i even went turbo i bought k-pro.... then i saved for everything i needed and the tuning... then went from there.... just get K-Pro....

...if u dont wanna listen to me and the other guys that know what we we're talking about then dont even think of posting your..."My motor is blown" thread on crsx........

Turbo'd, K-Pro'd, 14k hard driven miles on the setup with no issues....

lol anyone hear a K20 snappin rods soon?
not mine :)
K-Pro should be one of your first 3 mods on an RSX. Don't waste your time or money unless you have it. All ur doing is digging urself into and hole and gonna fuck urself over.
ok .... apparently we have a lot people on this forum that can not comprehend my original post and purpose of this thread. I did not make this thread or ask you about which is better k-pro or the afc.... I make a post asking a question about something and get answer's about something completly diff, if you dont have anything to say about my post then simply dont say shit. Im sure that if I blow my motor I wont go crying to every single one of you guys so if you have nothing to say in regards to the afc and me tuning the timing dont post....
Dude.

No one here is ignorant enough to fuckn' boost their car and then throw an AFC on it and actually think that is semi-logical and will work. I swear to god, you might as well just boost it on the stock ecu and have at it. It will prolly last just as long. A week. Two runs down the track at best.

We aren't ignoring your question, we are trying to save you from doing possibly the stupidest thing ever done by a turbo rsx owner. I can't even describe in words to you how stupid this is.

PLEASE DON'T TRY RUNING AN AFC FOR A BOOSTED RSX... i GOT A POWERCARD THAT YOU COULD USE... :) ALL THAT DOES IS ADD MORE FUEL THO...

looks like you need to find something else then....

aem is probably the only one to have something to control timing but good luck with whatever you're doing.

:coffee:
Your car is not going to run.

Here is why:
First off the AFC will allow you to control fuel, however, the stock computer will put your car in to limp mode after the map sensor picks up anything over 3psi. The Black-magic box was not designed to control timing. It was designed to allow you to run bigger injectors, and trick the ECU in to thinking there was no boost taking place.

Second, if you are only running 10 - 12 psi, messing with the timing is not really an issue. Your motor will be fine on stock timing until you start making more power. This has been proven many times with the k20. Many people are actually running advanced timing at the lower boost levels to help with turbo lag. The stock ECU on the RSX with retard timing 2 degrees for every knock it picks up until it is no longer detected. Then add two degrees back slowly till it has returned to the stock map.

All in all, your afc alone will not make your car run simply because the stock ecu will not supposed the injectors, and the will not allow you to boost. That was the purpose of the black-magic and guardian.

id probably run e-manage ultimate before i ever used an afc
