It depends, if you're really into modding, dyno numbers and/or true performance, then go for it.

Even though your car payments will go down, u have to factor in other costs that will go up; mainly insurance and gas. Plus, you're talking about trading for a car that has roughly twice the mileage. Plus, do u know these guys? Do u know how they treated their cars? Those are other things u really have to consider when buying used cars of this type.

Personally, I own an '04 Type S b/c I just really "needed to have it" at the time. Looking back at it, all I truly needed was the base. I've never done any serious engine mods, never go auto x'ing or to the track and I've probably VTEC'ed my car about 30 times in 4 years. I've driven the base and Type S in an identical daily route situation and I can tell you there is NO difference. No matter what anyone else here says, they are the same car when driven in heavy traffic.
i own 06 type-s. my opinion is go for the 05-06 model I think it is more stylish.
stay with the base. it's a 5 speed, it's an 06, and it's got less than 40k miles on it. why trade for a car that's 3 years older, and has twice the mileage of your car? you won't feel a big difference, if any, and your car looks better, is hardly slower and probably drives better, and will face less issues. this is all coming from a type-s owner, i'd say stick with the base.
Keep the base, it still has a warranty. Unless you were trading for an 05-06 type S, THEN I'd say go for it.

Oh and I bet your insurance will go up too when you get a type-S, keep that in mind too.
I'd take a 02-04 Type-S over a 05-06 Base any day.

:ugh:
i would just stick with the base having a a better engine is not worth the hassle

overall I agree, but I would use this time to save for a really bad ass car
you're saying an 03 S with high mileage is gonna feel significantly faster than an 06 base with low mileage? you know cars lose power over time, right? emphasize that if they've been driven hard. besides, the 05-06 base models are slightly quicker than the 02-04 base models.
I don't consider 70,xxx miles as "high mileage." So yes, a 03 Type-S with 70,xxx miles will feel significantly faster than a low mileage 06 base.

What kind of 70K miles is the key for how much power was lost if any ;)

and the difference in power bieng signifacant is all up to interpretation....to me yes a 25% increase is signifacant but I actually race unlike 90% of the people on this forum :dontknow:

its up there, i would rather have a newer lower mileage car than a higher mileage older car that pretty soon is going to need parts replaced.

agreed

i second his answer
I'm just speaking from experience. My '02 Type-S has 116,xxx pretty carefully driven miles on it with practically no parts replaced. However, all scheduled maintanences were done on time, and I only run synthetic and premium. So it really all depends. I guess from my past cars I have never thought of anything less than 150,xxx miles as being "high mileage", not for a Honda atleast. :)
did you calculate how much lower your payments will be?

and how much higher your insurance will be over time? cause this will be important too...
It's 40 hp....do you really wanna go through all that hassel for a useless 40hp? The rsx is a slow car, regardless of it being base or an s. Stick with the newer base.
