V1=$399
escort 8500=$299
There is a saying " You pay for what you get," in my opinion you basically pay for the arrows on the v1. The escort and valentine both have good ratings and quality. I was wondering what are your opinions on this topic?
Is $100 worth it to get arrows on your radar just my thoughts

I have the valentine 1 and have had it for about 4 years now, and I love it. I do not feel comfortable driving without it. And I absolutely love having the arrows.

i have the 8500. plenty of warning, a more compact unit, and a bit cheaper. plus it was available at the local best buy.

arrows are not that big of a deal to me, and the 8500 has saved me enough times to pay for itself at least 3 times over.

i don't think you can go wrong with either choice.

I have been really happy with my 8500. I think if its just paid itself 3 times over, you have a light foot... mine has paid for its weight in platinum plus some... if a cop is radaring, it gets em!

I have the v1, and have been extremely pleased with it. I cannot imagine life without arrows. But like ronin said, you cannot go wrong with either choice because they are both good at sensing the radar.

I got the V1 and love it. I'd rather pay extra for the added peace of mind, even if it's only .01% more real security. The arrows are really useful -- they're so obvious in hindsight that I wonder why no other company has come out with them yet.

I have a V1, and the arrows are definately worth the money. For me I like knowing what my detector is sensing, and the V1 helps with that. I had a cheaper detector before and I was always wondering where the signal was coming from and if it was fake or real. With the arrows and the bogey counter on the v1 it almost eliminates the doubt.

But all detectors aren't going to save you from laser right?

Once you've been painted it's all over. Are the po-pos still using regular radar in most areas? I seem to see almost 100% laser in speed traps.

I am also trying to decide...

I bought the 8500 based on www.radartest.com's recommendations. This website is very informative and very thorough on their tests. I really couldn't justify spending the extra $100 on a nearly comparable V1 (with it's arrows and all) when you get just about the same result on both radars. It's like trying to compare intakes where one has 1-2 more horsepower than the other, but are you really going the feel the difference? They both perform well and may sound a little different but that's personal preference.

These two are your Lambos and Ferraris of detectors and you can't really go wrong with either. I have two friends that swear by their V1s and I pick up the same signals they do at the same time so that's proof enough to me that they work equally well. Even though $100 bucks difference is hard to justify now, in the scope of things, a potential $1000 raise in your insurance premium on top of the cost of the ticket, $100 is small apples. It's just when you finally buy one, later you start to tend to like what you have more than the other cuz I like my 8500. ;)

then you have either never used one, or likely used a cheap one that didn't give you enough warning.

don't count on any detector to save you from a laser. if you get hit with that, you are pretty much done.

Motor trend gave the Passport ike .1 higher score than the V1 in their newest issue. But just because it has some laser defragmenter or something that you have to pay $400 for or something, so I dont buy that crock of shit, $700 for a detector? fuck that, If I ever get one its going to be a V1 just because you can use a remote kit for it for $40 and hide it somewhere and put the detector on the visor or somethin so it doesnt look tacky.
