looking to get some domains under my belt for experience/practice. what is the best place for a decent price to get some raw sites to work on (not talking godaddy or anything prebuilt and if possible no wordpress or anything. just straight up blank html and css.)

i signed up for this place www.digitalocean.com but i think that is a place to not start up a site with its own domain...........unless im doing something wrong. think its a place to put your sites on a cloud so you can access the coding from anywhere? if im wrong, tell me lol. cause i have that for the month at least.

Godaddy is a great, inexpensive, and reliable server. You don't have to utilize their website builder, you can use anything you want and upload to your FTP site. If your doing basic HTML you can edit it on any computer in the world with notepad...

That being said, if you want practice, you don't need a server, as you can create HTML files right on your computer, test them in IE/FF/chrome etc, and then when you get the hang of it, start serving on an actual domain.

Just open up notepad. Type up your HTML on one page and your CSS on another page.
Then save it. Right click your HTML document and hover where it says Open With: and select your browser. Voila!

No. Just create it in a separate notepad page and save with extensions .css
and make sure to link it to your HTML page between the head tags with
<link type="text/css" rel="stylesheet" href="NameOfYourDoc.css">

there are also a lot of free CSS sites out there with really cool layouts and web candy. Build the site on your local workstation first, then worry about domains and all that jazz. You can also find some really cool html5 builders/development tools out there. Start googling :p

Well....Wiht squarespace.com, there is no coding involved. So if thats something that might interest u, take a look. You can build a website for free and if u like it, then u can select a purchase plan. Its pretty sweet.

Try getting a tumblr account. Rewrite the code and edit it to your liking until you get the hang of it. Next option is get Dreamweaver. You can start out with pre-made templates and work your way through customizing it until your able to create a page on your own. I also know some tutorials site's that can guide you through starting your first html5 page, lmk if your interested... Sorry for all the info, I just graduated with my aa in media arts - web/graphic design...
