Just wondering if anyone had ever built a custom/vented hood for the rsx, got an extra mint hood that was painted the same color as my car and was just gonna play with it to see if i could make it like a track hood, i know they sell vented hoods but ive got an extra spare oem so just wondering if anyones ever done it, posting pics would be nice, anything can be custom fabed up so im not really worried about the designs being too complicated, im really trying to get technical with this hood build because i know you can actually reduce engine temps and ive heard you can create more front end downforce somehow, just trying to maintain oem look and still actually do something good

Here are some of the hoods id like to try to design something like, dont be an ass, if you got something negitive to say just please GTFO :gtfo:

is it good for the motor to do that? would i still be using a filter because i couldnt imagine shit flying into my intake mani, because ive got a cold air on now and thats getting good flow when i race because i take the fog housing out and have another one routing air to my cai filter, but i have an old clubrsx injen short ram im not using......

it would be best, to make a mold of the current hood, then use the mold, make a fiberglass copy, this will be easier to work with, also will help you save the OEM, that way you don't have to destroy it, gives you a chance to make more, in the time you are building the hoods, you can also learn, how to use a fucking comma,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Oh no, I'm not messing up my OEM hood. I got another same color OEM hood for almost free. So, I figured let's see what i can do with this hood since I'll still have my OEM hood. Is this typing a little better? lol lol

Would fiberglass be suited for the temperatures of the engine? Actually nevermind forgot our hoods are made of fiberglass LOL. I would replicate the max raxing hood by using metal sheets if thats possible but not sure because in the picture the hood looks raised.

ok well came up with a few designs on autocad, im probably gonna paint the hood chalkboard when im finished, i chalkboarded my front lip last night and it came out pretty sweet and matches the car, but heres what i got so far............

Feel free to give input on what you think........

#1 OEM

#2 Max racing one.....

#3 Trying to just use the sides of the hood "probably wont work though"

#5 The one i might try to actually make....... easiest to cut and looks clean

Looks good and promising. Going to follow you on this one, can't wait too see outcome. Hopefully your gonna do the Max Racing one.

its between the maxx racing one or the last one, because i wanna do the max racing one for looks but performance wise the last one might perform better because the vent is over the header and SRI, getting heat away from the header and providing the SRI with cool air, and the reason im venting the hood is for performance wise, better yet i just need to run no hood "plenty air flow" :rotfl:

Moar vents moar powarrrr!

now these are horrible drawings but you get the point lol  the max racing hood seems like it would give your car more downforce because of the vents being placed upfront, but heat wise you'd still be getting mad heatsoat, the other one would produce less heatsoak for my SRI, now during the summer i push the CAI and my intake doesn't get heatsoak anyway, either one is simple to make, not a big deal cut wise, i wanna go with the max racing design because i dont really autocross or drag during the winter when i have my SRI on, but during the summer when ive got the CAI i do, but with the other design #5 i see it being a better "best of both worlds" type of option, guess im still in the air :dontknow: ive got till friday night when i start

LOL I know the 5th one is more functional and clean while the max racing looks better.

Here's some inspiration/idea if you need it.
Your design looks similar to the buddy club hood but I'm guessing thinner and wider since your focusing on cooling the header and guessing your short ram intake, the filter is positioned on top.

also to bring more cold air in toward the header and take things alittle extreme add a small scoop like the mugen hood. so kinda like this. i hope you dont mind me using your design as a base.

um.. no I don't think so.

Trick with aero is adding them in places where it's necessary.

I would think with the amount of air flowing into the engine bay, having that many vents will just lower the amount of pressure in the engine bay available to push/pull the hot air out. :dontknow:

just as Drewski said,

dont use the oem hood for the end product unless you plan to make the vents/design out of sheet metal and weld it together, or rivet the composite vents/design on. Composite molded to metal will eventually crack due to the two materials expanding and contracting at different temperatures.

However, since you do have a second oem stock hood- you can use it to develop the "plug" or "positive" using foam/clay and fiberglass and filler. After it is finished and block sanded, painted and polished you can then section it for molding and make a multi part negative mold- typically a two part negative is used for hoods (front side, and backside). Then you can cast your final piece from that mold. Just make sure you properly brace your plug so it doesn't warp when the mold it curing (heat).

Number five looks the best, but if buddy club has already made a hood similar to number 5, why not just buy that instead? Perhaps even take that one and change it. Definitely stay away from the hoods with the vents above the wheels. Rocks will fly throw there, eventually, and scratch up your hood and windshield. Maybe crack it.

Now, I realize we have fender liners, but if you plan on running big tires, you'll probably have to take them out.

The Buddy Club hood is sick. If you make that style then sign me up for one.

way to bump an old ass thread.........

i wasnt cutting my OEM hood, and i had a spare chalkboard hood and didnt wanna cut that either so found a third one to play with

but picked up a VBP hood last night for $20 that's mint!!!! cant really see in the pic but :idgaf:
