So I'm doing my first real build. K24a1/K20a2 swap into my 05 Base RSX.
K24a1 block is on it's way. Bolt-ons just about finished. Already have KTuner.
My goals are to build a K24a1 block (forged rods and pistons), use a k24a1 head (already have) with k20a2 valvetrain (already have) and stock A2 cams (already have) for the foreseeable future.
I will be upgrading the valve springs/retainers/seats but keeping stock valves.
I would like as much reliability as I can get with the option to:
A) safely supercharge down the road which should work well with A2 cams or
B) Add more aggressive cams and stay NA.
I had planned to go 87.5mm bore with Wiseco 11:1 compression 87.5mm pistons and Manley H-Beams.
I know I-Beams are ideal but I don't plan to rev the piss out of it and the price bump is stupid.
Just going to use a balanced k24a1 crank.
With forged internals and upgraded valve train I should be able to set my rev limit/goal to around 7500-8000rpms.
I will be using the A3/A2 oil pump most likely unmodified and no porting for oil squirters as I plan to keep it at or under 8k (most likely my power band will taper off at around 7200).
Looking at probably going after market oil cooler as opposed to A2 since I would need to purchase the parts regardless.
TLDR;
1. Will I be satisfied with 11:1 compression in an NA K24a1/a2 build? I see most people running 12.5:1 in similar setups.
2. Unless I'm completely misinformed, the setup should handle anywhere in the 7-8k range safely and be quite reliable as long as the assembly and tune goes well.
3. If I'm not building an engine to rev the piss out of, is there any other major advantage to spending almost triple for Manley I-Beams?
