ok so my brakes are starting to screech when i hit the brakes. it does not make it at the high rpms only when it starts to get lower, and its loud and high pitched.

really dont think its my brake pads cuz i got brand new hawk hps pads about 3 months ago....what else could it be? it started recently and it drives me mad and ust sounds all around bad

My Wilwood BBK squeeled like a mofo all the dam time. Pads were still good and rotors were too. I ordered some Wilwood shims to put on the backs of the pads & the squeeling stopped.

FYI i have had crossdrilled rotors and a couple different sets of ceramic pads on it. i got the first set and installed them and broke them in properly and used plenty of brake-ez or whatever it is called to make sure it doesn't squeek. but to my dismay squeeking a lot of it. i talked to some people who suggested because it was racing pads they squeeq but they dont heat up enough to stop the squeeking.

So the solution was get more average street ceramic pads. so thats what i did. installed them and broke them in as well. they squeek as much f not more then my previous pads. i was then told perhaps it is the metal used for my rotors.

After further inspectino i found out that 3 of my friends with rsx's also have this squeek problem. A mechanic with an rsx told me that it is the ceramic rotors and you know they are good if they squeek. so right now i am in the dilemma of spending money again to get my 3rd set of pads this year that arent ceramic. or should i jsut wait these pads out until they are finished then install more ceramic ones and suck it up again.

yeah i also heard hawks are very god breaks and they will always squeel... they are racing brakes and driving a race car who cares about squeeling. they brake hard and when you break hard they dont squeek it's a mid-range squeek. and it is not just hawks (just very good quality) it is any good quality ceramic brake pad. i found this out and apparently the shims won't make a difference due to the fact that the compound is the issue. so if you have squeeky breaks they are probably jsut squeeking at you to tell you they are good!

Then why invest the xtra money in performance pads? If most ppl rarely need to brake that hard during their day to day driving and the squeak is extremely annoying, it seems like most only need the performance brakes for the cool brand name in their list of mods. Or do the performance pads make a significant difference for daily driving?

chime in same problem.

I use Hawk HP Plus's and Slotted rotors RBF 600 fluid.

But I dont think its a problem really, I really think it is the nature of the pad. Reason being while I'm at the track my brakes are silent the entire time and working perfectly. Daily driving they squeek like mad.

I still use them because of the track performance, but I would love to stop the noise during the day.

But also an observation:
They are super quiet consistantly after I wash my car, and the wheels are clean. Then after the wheels get dusty, they start to get noisy yet again.

Anyone else notice this?? I'm not giving up yet, i still have a few more things to try.

sorry long post

Mine don't squeal. I have hawk HPS too. You have to break them in.

search for brake pad break in.

they will squeal because of the compound. when the ceramic pads wear off (brake dust), then the contact between the pad, the dust, and the rotor will cause the sqeal.

your lucky then man... i have changed my pads on cars a million times (not literally) and no matter what these ceramic pads on my rsx squeel... strangly enough i put ceramic pads on my old car (Cavalier Z24) numerous times and never had squeeling problems except with the rear drum brakes cause i kept cracking them from e-braking everywhere ... :dontknow: but yeah these brakes were broken in properly and i still have this squeeling problem...
