Alright guys i just bought an RSX base and I knew it had some rust around the fenders. But its also has rust in other littler areas , and my main concern for future problems, is the rails under the rear lights are basically rusted to tissue paper . I cant find rust anywhere else but I havent done that much digging . Now if you owned a 2002 rsx with this rust and 213xxx miles what would you do? fix or scrap ? Im really tired of buying new cars .

Rusty rails behind this bumper

The rust is not that bad. Picture #1 looks like the metal is rotted from the inside, which means you will need to cut the metal out and weld in a clean panel. You can usually tell if it's an inside rot when you see bubbling around the rust.

The rest of the pictures look like surface rust which you may be able to grind back to metal and fill with bondo.

The rails behind the bumper, I'm assuming the bumper bar? Not a big deal, internal metal is easy to work with, grind it back, paint with rust converter and you're set.

What I would do if I were you is go around to at least 2 body shops and ask them to take a look at the rust spots and see what they say. From the pictures, it doesn't look too bad, so you might be able to avoid major cutting and welding. Depending on the area, it may be more difficult to work with it, but generally speaking, one should fix rust during a full re-spray because doing it by sections will likely cause the paint to look uneven. I don't know what your plans are for this car, but if it's in the budget, save for a full re-spray and get the rust taken care of then.

Check the weld areas under the doors for rust as well, common rust area.

Here's a YouTube channel where a guy shows how he fixes and restores cars. He deals with rust a lot and you can find out a lot of good D.I.Y information and just general information of how body work is done. Though I warn you that he swears a lot and does some weird shit, but a really good guy and a great body shop mechanic.

Thanks a lot for the info! Definitely gives me hope about it , my experience with rust is if you see some , its normally everywhere and a lot worse than you think . Rusting doors doesnt sound like fun to me, But fenders and doors can be replaced , just as long as the main frame is ok I'm happy.

Yeah the frame is the most important thing structurally speaking, but surface and body rust is annoying as well.

I've got rust all over and none of it is bad to the point of holes or body rot, but it's surface rust and it's there. The thing is, to get all of it off, I may as well save for a full re-spray.

To check the frame, you'd have to pull the bumpers off, the rest is difficult to check. You'd have to get it on a hoist and strip the interior to check the floor pans.

Door panels can also be replaced, the biggest pain in the ass are the quarter panels, roof, and pillars. The rest can be replaced without welding.
