Hey all! New to the forum, not new to hondas though! Figured for my intro Id talk about what all Ive done to my 05 type s. Scooped up this bonse stock, single owner rsx a while back and was aiming to do a somewhat budget build. Obviously maintenance came first. New valve cover gasket, plugs, borescoped the cylinder walls and had very nice cross hatch with no scoring
was happy to see. Especially with 150k miles. Replaced the timing chain tensioner along with new thermostat. Flushed brske/clutch fluid. Bled cooling system. New transmission fluid. Now the fun begins
i wanted to make 220whp as my goal. From other builds ive seen it didn't seem impossible with a healthy k series but testing some budget options thought may be little harder. Pleasently surprised though! Heres the list!
Mods:
Tanabe Sustec front tower bar
Whiteline front sway bar (to accomodate race header)
Tegiwa (Toda style race header)
Tegiwa (carbon group m style intake)
Tegiwa 70mm intake elbow
Jackspaniaracing 70 billet throttle body
Bullboost intake manifold 70mm throttle opening (port matched the runners and smoothed the lip at throttle side)
Bullboost thermal gasket throttle and manifold
K-teller 3" exhaust piping
Vibrant ultra guiet resonator
SRS 3" straight thru race muffler with 5" tip from my previous Eclipse way back
Solid front mount (helped alot with engine movement and traction, downside is more in cabin vibration and possible rattling loose of various bolts. The driving feedback makes it worth to me though.)
Ktuner end user chip (watching a diy was able to solder onto ecu myself. Actually way easier than expected. Just be steady and patient)
I feel all of this wqs very reasonably priced! I will eventually get a better exhaust aince some of the welds are kind of ugly and i feel some sharper transitions in this design are unnecessary. Kteller also hangs too low for my taste but otherwise if im careful hasnt been an issue. The only other issues i ran into were the billet throttle body. It's great for the price! But, you NEED to put threadlock on the throttle cam nut otherwise it WILL back off and use lock nuts on the 4 bolts with some blue threadlock i had 2 of mine back out due to solid front motor mount. Other than that this all has worked nicely together
for the prices hard to beat. After all the mods i rocked ktuner stage 3 fbo map for a little while resulting in the car being night and day with power! Of course i wanted to be dialed in better than an ots map though. Ended up taking it in shortly after to do just that
Very happy with the results of this pretty simple setup and surpassed my 220whp goal! Next is to clean up the body dents, haven't decided if i want to repaint/refresh with same color or attempt to wrap it, also want to go heavy on the suspension upgrades next as well as lighten up the car. Externally i like the oem+ look so nothing too crazy in that department beyond some other wheels down the line. Anyway, this is my intro post. Let me know what you think, ideas, suggest, etc. Hoping to showcase the progress here as I move forward with the car!
