I went down to acura for an estimate on painting my greddy lip to pwp, the guy said he might need a sample off my car if i was just gunna drop off the lip there for them to paint, he suggested that i take off the fuel door and leave it with them along with the lip, so they could match the color more accuratly. is this really neccessary? this is my first time getting a part painted so i dont kno how things are suposed to work but i dont really wanna drive around with no fuel door for a day or two, would it be okay to just tell them to match it with nothing since it IS the acura body shop and they SHOULD be able to match pwp pretty accuratly without a sample right?

If the color matching was performed by an authentic Acura shop, then all they should need is the color code, which can be found inside your driver side door jamb.

I'm guessing they're having a 3rd party digitally match the paint before they mix the paints to match your car :dontknow:

well this is supposed to be an acura shop i dont kno why they are doing this it seems kinda shady, i think imma have a talk with them tomorow before i drop it off for paint, make sure he has the paint code

I gave my local auto paint shop the color code and they just mixed me up some ppg brand base coat in an aresol can. They also charged me up an aersol full of ppg clear. My shit matches 100% NBP. Good luck, from what I understand, any good paint shop can do it.

aight imma just have them take the code, cuz i really dont wanna roll around with no fuel door for 2 days...it might not be a big deal but it just seems unreasonable for acura to ask me to do that.

Its not unreasonable for them to ask that of you. Most bodyshops do the same thing if you drop off parts without leaving the car there. A color like PWP which is a tri-stage paint is one of the harder ones to match. If the part comes back not matching correctly thats your fault for not supplying the asked part. I dunno about you guys talking about "authentic honda paint", most manufactures use big name suppliers like PPG or dupont for thier color systems. Any shop that uses the same color system can correctly match up the color given the code but the color on the car can vary due to weathering.

well its all good now no problem, originally i just didnt wanna go through taking off the stock lip to give to them as a sample but...after almost breaking the clips off...i got it off so i have no prob wit leaving a part anymore...
