My 02 Type-S has started throwing code for "inefficient Catalytic Converter". ebay has complete replacement including gaskets and hardware for around $120.00. Other than the bolts being welded in due to 16 years of heating up and cooling down, O2 sensor etc., is there any opinions on a particular brand, type or anything else I should take into consideration? Thanks.

LMAO! acurapartswarehouse.com price for a new OEM Converter is $2,445.28. Plus S&H. Anything available that is below that, "probably" isn't OEM. For that kind of money, I could put on a new kTuned header, cat and cat back exhaust sytem and still have money for a high priced "date". But hey, maybe someone has one laying around.

Well snap! Living in Cali can be such a drag. I'm stuck using either "Walker, Miller or Car Sound Exhaust System" as vendors for a replacement Catalytic Converter. They are the only approved providers (in other words "legal") of Catalytic Converters in the state according to the "California Air Resources Board" listing. Best price so far is $350.00 installed for the "Walker Magnaflow P/N 82806 universal fit" installed. Hmmm. More research now just seems to be price!

And it just gets better. The local muffler shops cannot sell me a new CC without an engine code off a sticker, located on the hood. Unfortunately, there is no sticker because the hood was replaced after an accident involving the original owner. So, I had to order the sticker from Acura at a cost of $16.00 that should be in, in about a week, to get the last three or four characters from the engine code to ensure that I get the correct CC for my car. WOW! This morning when I asked this question, I had no idea what kind of rabbit hole I was going down.

Need an assist. Can someone please take a picture under your hood showing the location of the vehicle emissions sticker? Acura says my replacement should be in, in about a week. Just need to know where to properly affix it. Thanks.

To close this thread out. I received my Honda emission sticker for under the hood for my 02 Type-S w 257k miles. The sticker was never replaced by the previous owner after an accident that caused the replacement of the hood and front drivers side quarter panel.

I live in CA and to install the proper "legal" Catalytic Converter, you need the emission sticker to verify which CC is authorized to be used on the vehicle. Even if you pass all of the smog checks here, you can still fail the required smog test if you have the wrong or no CC installed which of course means you can't register your vehicle. Welcome to LaLa land. The state is so FUCKED! Dont ever move here!

Anyway, the total price for a Walker CC installed was $325.00. It took the shop about 1 1/2 hours to cut out the old and reinstall the new. Beautiful weld job I have to say. Anyway, thats it. Have a great weekend everyone.

Glad it all worked out Paul. That is good info on the part #. Some time ago I needed a CAT and could not find a universal, ended up buying a fairly newer OEM CC. I will keep this info hand for future use

Crazy State of CA!!
